Walker Owe Pzdnoripal fz. Wfeladaa p6t6'!f4f0lt When Paul ond Polly Parrot retumed to school this year, we found many new changes. Not only had our building under- gone extensive painting and remodeling, we found a new principal. lt didn't take long for us to realize that we had a true ally in Mr. Peterson. He at- tended all our games, visited our class- rooms and was always available when we wanted to see him. We were amazed at his tireless energy and how he seemed to be everywhere at on ce. His capable deans, Mrs. Walker and Mr. Hungerford, are carrying on in the same capacity we have known since we were in Poly. Mrs. Walker's friendly and smart ap- pearance and Nr. Hungerford's bluff good humor will long remain with us. We feel we have profited immensely from our con- tacts with them. Om Deane Dean of Women P. Hungerford Dean of Men 11 Mrs. Anderegg palyo Qaeda! office Poly revolves around its office staff. The bells are controlled here, absences are excused, tardinesses are checked--many of the hundreds of minute daily excuses are handled here. Mrs. Anderegg serves as secretary to Mr. Peterson and runs hundreds the main office. Yearly she helps to train of young men and women in office practice. Mrs. McConnon is Mrs. Anderegg's capable assistant. She sees that the Polyite comes from the press three times a week, handles the voluminous correspondence over grade transcripts and skillfully handles many other daily tasks. Mrs. Molien gnc Mrs.Miller serves as attendance clerk which is no easy task for such a large school as Poly. Mrs. Molien, as girl's dean's secret- ary, gets more than her share of sad stories. She has to be a diplomat, a constant receiver of problems, large and small. Mr. Santos handles all the school funds--his receipt books and sharp accounting pencils are as well known to all of us as a tax .coIIector. Mrs. Waters is boy's dean's secretary. Her good humor, sense of fairness and patience are wonderful virtues. 9 gn- Mrs. McConnon Q97 Mrs Miller S yn. rx Mr Sgnfog Mrs Waters .11 Roland Lim, Senior Layouts wwe! deff Robert Hess, Pat Rawls, Editor-in-Chief, Marlyss Gerberding, Rapidly turning the pages of a yearbook doesn't take much time. But Paul and Polly .. Parrot know that there is nothing fast about Assistant Editor f putting a yearbook together. What to leave out? What to include? How to best make use of the limited space? All these questions have been uppermost in the minds of the staff. No book can be perfect, everyone can't be pleased but, if the maiority find pleasure in our efforts, we are satisfied. Each member of the staff contributed much in running er- rands, identifying pictures, collecting money, supervising the scheduling of pictures, selling of ads and the dozens of related items which make a yearbook complete. We sincerely hope you like our efforts! We had YOU in mind every step of the way. . . here is your Journal for l955. . .Happy reading and pleasant memories in the years that lie ahead. I As a matter of fact, we go through this TWICE a 6 I year but often retain one or more of the electors for ii some other office when their old term expires. Suddenly, campaign posters blossom all over the school, special assem- blies are held and the various candidates tell of their plans for the fu- ture and their platforms upon which they hope to be elected. Lapel buttons and ribbons add color and excitement to the occasion. Finally, the fateful day arrives and we vote in our homerooms for the candidates we want to lead us for the next semester. What a tense time it is for the office-seekers! Some are glum and some are exuberant, but the losers accept defeat gracefully and pitch in to make Poly ever better for we Parrots, Paul and Polly. After quite a while he was eligible to ioin the Sergeant's Club, which is made up of all the sergeants in the ROTC. The Rifle Team consists of the most accu- rate shots in the ROTC Battalion. There are three matches held during the school year. The Hearst contest is the big match in which all the high schools of the city compete. At the end of the Spring term the San Fran- cisco high schools hold an examination to determine awards to be made to schools of Brigade and Regimental commanders. The ROTC cadet making the highest score on the examination wins the honor for the school. The Battalion staff is appointed within the school. Each school's ROTC are formed of Battalion Units. The Battalion.contains three or more boys, depending on the number of students in the company. Each class is culled a company. The Sabre Club consists of about 15 boys. These boys are all officers of the Battalion unit. Next time you see the ROTC in action, stop for a minute and realize how much work goes into their marching and shining equipment. Polytechnic is iustly proud of her represen- totives. ll RIFLE TEAM 43 ROW ONE: Ferguson, R, Lewis, G, Rugamus, R, Yee J ROW TWO: Hill, J, Falk, P, Bier, R, Lund, W. Under the effi- cient guidance of Mr. Morrison these boys and girls successfully operate the stage lights, set up props for the plays and oper- ate the proiectors in school and during rallies. A high-pitched scream emerges from the audi- torium. No, no, shouts Mr. Morrison, Do that scene over again. Constantly striving to perfect scenes and make each play a well-coordinated and smooth-running unit is only one of the many functions of the Drama Club under the expert guidance of Mr. Morrison. sf Paul and Polly have found that dramatics offer a real challenge and it has been a lot of fun, tool We will miss the thrill that comes iust before the curtain parts on the first act and the cheers and laughs of the STAGE CREW Uudience were 0 'ea' 'OMC to US' Left wright. ,FIRST STEP: Michael Perryman. Our pictures have been takien 'for the Journal...we have bought our announcements and have been wearing our senior rings for many months. It doesn't seem possible that the culmination of twelve years of school attendance has now come to an end. Many of us will go on to fame and fortune, many of us will marry and become homeowners and take an active part in our community life. Many of us will feel the urge of travel and the military will take others from our ranks. No matter what the future may hold for us...no matter how far we go or how diverse our paths may become, for a long while we were as one. We were a unified class in a wonderful school. Some of the bad things we ex- perienced will fade and only the good things will remain in our memories. Wherever we go, whatever we do, Poly is our Alma Mater and we shall always bear a fond place in our hearts for her. 4 I XJ J I J farm M 1 N w X N 4 H 0 , Lp if ffm, A N NMX AQ GU ,D JM TVLJ A I .
