For Fifth Straight Win Fails PODY 7 2 COMMERCE 0 The Parrots opened their 1950 campaign looking slightly ragged. The game was extremely hard fOught all the way and if it had not been for a brilliant 62- yard touchdown jaunt on a pass interception by Jim Blankenship, the game would have ended in a score- less tie. As it was, the Bulldogs had a little edge in the statistics. The chief cause for the Parrotls weak showing in the line was sensational Commerce sopho- more guard, Sonny Sanchez. Poly Commerce First Downs ................................................ 2 8 Yards Rushing ............................................ 46 100 Yards Passing ............................................ 7 7 POLY 21 e MISSION 6 Due to the efforts of Jim Blankenship and Stan Ozaki, the mechanics were able to hand favored Mission at 21-6 defeat. The Parrots struck quickly in the first minute of play. Stan Ozaki scrambled 35 yards to the Mission 1 yard line. Blankenship then plunged over for the first of his three touchdowns. Two more Blankenship pay dirt thrusts came in the second and fourth periods. Ozaki set the second one up with a nifty 40-yard jaunt. The Parrot line improved tremendously in this game. Poly Mirrion First Downs ................................................ 13 6 Yards Rushing .............................................. 204 110 Yards Passing .............................................. 42 91 POLY 19 - WASHINGTON O Poly,s air game finally came into its own in this game. Charley Sackett, Parrot quarterback, was thread- ing the needle with his tosses, getting 260 yards on 13 completions. The initial T. D. came in the first period on a Sackett pass to Ozaki good for 47 yards. Jim OlNeill, all-city end, made a spectacular catch of a 28-yard Sackett tOuChdown pass in the second quarter to give the Red and Black their second airborne T. D. of the game. Bob Nicola pushed over from the 5 yard line to rack up the final Parrot six points. Poly IVaxbington First Downs .......................................... 14 Yards Rushing ...................................... 108 Yards Passing ...................................... 260 POLY 40 2 LOWELL 12 In the traditional game with Lowell, the Parrots took a 40912 win over a big Card team. The game was much tighter than the score seems to indicate and if it had not been for costly Indian blunders at the wrong moments Coach Mike Voynels boys might have made a Close game of it. Again the Mechanics, air game broke the oppo- sition's back. Charley Sackett combined a masterful passing attack with clever play-calling. Scoring for Poly were Ozaki, Blankenship, Art Di Cello, Charley Sackett, Ed Johnson, and Joe Escobar.
