FOREWORD The 1960-61 year at Long Beach Poly- technic High School will soon be just a memory. As you take this 1961 Caeru- le into your possession, it is the sin- cere hope of each member of the staff that you will appreciate our efforts to give you a record of the past year. We are sure that if you will take a mo- ment now and then to thumb through the pages, many memories, golden and sometimes slightly blue, will be re- called to mind. But these memories will not be lim- ited to just the 1960-61 year, because the whole past is so closely interwoven with the present. Not disregarding the past, we must strive to be conscious of the future, or that which is about to be. This is es- pecially realized by the Seniors as they approach graduation. This forward pro- jection of our thoughts is what is im- plicit in our theme, 4'An Awareness of the CAERULISTICF, This word was coined by the staff to sum up the many intangible parts of what the theme means to us. It involves being aware of the future and embrac- ing goals that will guide us in bringing these future ideals successfully into the present. One definition of the future is 4'That which is about to be. When translated, Caerulea means Sea Blue. As many of us are now standing at the shore of an imaginary sea, contemplating upon that which is about to be, CAERULISTIC is just the word to express our theme.
