FOREWCDRD Everyone has certain goals in life. Some strive for the ultimate in perfection, while others are satisfied with mere minimum achievements. Whether we are aspiring toward the highest goals or seeking lesser gains, we are all aiming for excellence in order that we might create a better world. Since achievement is our aim, we have chosen excellence in action for our theme. Excellence can be obtained only through self-discipline, sincere determination, and dili- gent application. As we have seen through the year, excellence is achieved through the setting and attaining of high goals. Throughout the school year we have seen definite application of excellence in both the areas of scholastic achievement and in the field of athletics. Various forms of open recognition, such as scholarships, merit certificates, and awards have been presented to outstanding students in numerous fields. We have again this year attained high honors in the field of athletics. We are proud to be recognized throughout Southern California as the champions ,in most of the athletic fields. Even though it has not been possible to give personal recognition to everyone for his endeavors, it has been illustrat- ed time and again that a great number of our students have excelled in many different ways. Our school could not function properly without the active participation of each individual striv- ing toward his or- her own level of excellence. We look to the future with optimistic' visions of fulfilling our desired goals of perfection and excellence. It is our sincere hope that future generations will uphold, and even go beyond the standards that we have set. We hope, too, that future goals will not prove ephemeral but will be realized through excellence in action.

Outstanding achievement should be shared, not only to salute the benefactors, W but also to act as a spark of inspiration to others who are still working toward an unrealized goal. A goal is the keynote to success. C3 Ambition and hard work are important and vital, but a goal is the compass by which we steer our course in the journey of life. Throughout the Awards section you will meet students who have given some part M of themselves to academic and extra-curricular activities. We feel that these students are truly award winners from their demonstrations of conscientiousness and scholarly interest. Congratulations to those who have reached this horizon of accomplishment on their journey into life. The Caerulea staff is especially proud to present the 1960 Caerulea Awards. These awards of merit are determined by the members of our faculty in the various phases of our high school curriculum. We feel that these students in their respective fields have attained the essence of our theme i- Excellence in Action.
