Something Has Been Added' Teachers and students returning to Polo High School last fall found a change in the appearance of the school neighborhood, The half block just north of the school building, which we had last seen grown up with weeds and brush, had been improved. On the north side of the block a white house had been moved from the lot on which the new grade school was to be erected. Workmen were just completing the garage accompanying the house, and this new home, we were informed, would be the residence of the Superintendent of Polo Schools. On the south side of the block, just opposite the high school building, stood a stocky building of concrete blocks and many win- dows, the new vocational agriculture building. Here the attention of all the boys centered, and the new vocational agriculture course, and the teacher, Mr. Rhodes, became the chief subjects of conver- sation. About forty boys enrolled in the course. Mr. Rhodes put them right to work building the tables, tool cabinets and other equipment needed in working out the various projects which they must under- take as part of their course. They have built-everything from book- shelves and flower racks to hog houses. Mr. Rhodes, a graduate of the University of Missouri, offered courses not only to the schoolboys, but to farmers of the commun- ity who like to come in for help on building plans and for welding classes. Several nights a week the big windows gleam with the bright lights, and the flash of the welding torches and the numerous cars parked near the building tell us a farmers' welding class is in progress. 32

Future Farmers of America Our F.F.A. Chapter was organized October 13, 1950. There are thirty-six boys who are active members. One of our activities was the sale of tickets on a registered Duroc gilt to be given away at the High School Carnival. Mr. Dean Norman gave our Chapter a registered Hampshire ewe lamb in appreciation of our blocking some of his ewes to be sold at the Northwest Missouri Hampshire Bred Ewe Sale. The F.F.A. Barnwarming was held on December 13th. Our Queen was Mary Katherine Mayes, and the Princesses were Maxine Wooden and Anna Mae Barnes. The Chapter has sponsored two programs this year. It sponsored a play The Adorable Imp , presented by the Cowgill Methodist Church, and The K.F.E.Q. Home Talent Show, which was broad- cast over K.F.E.Q. on January 20th. We have had one basketball game with Stet in which we won by a score of 40 to Z6. A 'Father and Son Banquet will be held in the near future. The boys will bring their fathers. The Queen, the Princesses, the school board, and Mr. Peterson will be invited guests. Another event to be held in the future will be a social meeting with the F.H.A. in return for- the box supper they had for the F.F.A. Our Chapter will also put on a radio skit on station K.F.E.Q. on June Znd. A judging team from our Chapter will participate in a local judging contest to be held at Hamilton on March 28th. The district judging contest will be held at Maryville on April 13th and 14th. Max Creason and Hugh Dean Teegarden will be the' delegates to at- tend the meeting at Columbia held on April 19th and 20th. We also expect to participate in a Public Speaking Contest at Excelsior Springs, April 4th, V 33
