, New Grade School In January, 1950, the Board of Education contacted various firms of architecture concerning a new grade school building for Polo. On.February 10th, the firm of Nlarshall and Brown, of Kansas City, was retained to draw up the plans for this build- ing. The plans were made for a one-story brick building containing six classrooms, an office, a kitchen, combination cafeteria and playroom, janitor storeroom, and rest!- rooms, These plans were accepted by the Board of Building Commission of the State Department of Education. The Polo Board of Education offered the plans for contract bids, and on September 2.8, 1950, a contract for construction was let to the firm of Elliott and Arms, of Richmond, Missouri, Work was immediately begun on the new building. The foundation has been completed, the furnace installed, and the east and west walls have been built as high as the window sills. Weather permitting, work will go ahead rapidly in the future, as most of the material has been purchased and is on the grounds. ,yrs iw, SW f 5 e z 5 I f,.f sliif , 5 K Students and townspeople attend the ground breaking ceremony for the new grade school building. 17
