As they pass up the CU11VC'yOl' into the threshmg machine L I ' , x X' ' - . v ,1 x ' 1: 1' ' v x v ' v 1 u ' - xl X ' - 1 TheC cle GF rom Seed Tlme To Harves 99 In the year 1928 fourteen tiny tots started out as seedlmgs ln the blg broad field of educatlon But even Wltll such a small class we had many good times to gether and learned a great deal In S1Xth grade we particularly regretted the death of our most beloved teach er Mrs George Read When we were ready for transplantmg from grade school we had a class of twenty members On a bright September morn1ng in 36 fifty three little plants took root 1n the acres of Polo Commun1ty High School Here we began to sway to and fro under our load of books and in our eager desire to be a worth Whlle product at harvest tlme After an informal 1n1t1at1on our green strips of crepe paper told the world that green leaves were beg1nn1ng to grow Donald Mlller assumed the task of pres1dent and proved very capable Our second year we started Wlth pep and persistence and drank IH from ou1 textbooks and teachers the knowledge which we needed Our class had fewer mem bers than had the other three classes but belng good little seedlings we made up 1n quality for our lack 1n numbers Harold Kline made a very able pres1dent We were successful editors of the school column H1 L1tes When our hect1c sopho more year was ow er we were happy because we felt an espec1a1 need for a period in which we could l1e dormant and renew our strength At the beg1nn1ng of our third year we started out with a vengeance s1nce we through this year Our class play Glass Dlshes was a hit and impressed every one with our acting ab1l1t1es We ordered our class rings early in order to have them by Christmas t1me Durlng the first semester we aga1n edlted H1 L1tes At the end of the year we spread a feast for the semors at The Top Hat Club prob ably the first venture for many of us 1nto a nlght club Upon returning to school in the fall of 39 we stood as models for the under classmen 1n the application of sc1ent1fic knowledge and were proud that we were so near the Harvest We elected Harold Kllne pres1dent for the second time More of our excellent actors presented another Hne play Early to Bed Early to R156 Sen1or p1ctures thrilled us all and we got a pretty good idea of ourselves as others see us Then we got right down to work and decided to edlt the best annual pos sible We were extremely gay at the Senior Ball and then settled down to serlous thought for Baccalaureate and Commencement Eight of the fourteen who started together as tiny first grade seedlings were among the group at harvest tlme James Bellows Cecil Byrd Alice Marie Comp ton Bernice Howard Helen Johnston Harold Kllne LaVerne Llvmgston and Marcella Markle And so we go on from this tlme of harvest to be transplanted agaln lnto new fields beyond the boundaries of our dear Alma Mater ' t . , , Y , - Y , . - LK . . 7, . - 1 ' ' - v I knew the time of harvest would soon be upon us.
