CLASS Ill Tllll On September 4 1944 16 students entered the flrst grade of Polk Hldl School We conststed of s1x boys Bobby Wells Donald L1ndsey Jerry SIQFISI Tom Repp Donald Garver and ten gxrls Judy Catro Nancy Hootman Janet Ketth Carolyn Arnold Cora Fryman Ann Hootman Patsy Oxender Frelda Schertff Dorts Dtlgard and Ruth Ann Brown Mrs Lots Fox was our teacher We were now on our way to the top The second grade found us tncreased tn sxze w1th the addmon of Donna Weltmer Glenn Tan ner Junxor Farner and Ralph Howell. Mrs Fox was our teacher th1s year also We were pro gressmg slowly Durmg the thtrd year of our educated hves we lost two classmates Glenn Tamer and Ruth Ann Brown but we recetved Tom West Our teacher th1s year was Mrs Gladys Hammond In the fourth grade we adrrutted Davtd Kramer Carolyn Kuchenbecker and Joan Garver We lost Nancy Hootman and Tom Repp Our teacher was Mrs Elva Bordner The year 1948 saw us well on our way to reachmg our goal as we entered the f1fth grade Th1s year we lost only one J umor F arner but gatned Bob Roseborough Eddxe Haun M1ke Sweet Emma L1ndsey and Lawrence Thompson ln the stxth grade we added Phtlhp and Mary Lou Owens w1th James Rush and Tom West leavmg us The seventh grade our flrst year of J uruor High we admltted B111 Reynolds Mary Knowlton and Lewls Bland Our teacher Mrs V B Moffett was also our erghth grade teacher In the elghth grade we were Joyful as we had only four years to go Betty Knowlton Ph1ll1p Owens Mary Lou Owens B111 Reynolds and Emma Lmdsey left us Gerald Sxmpson was added to our enrollment thts year 1952 our f1rst year of htgh school We were now freshmen and occupxed the long awa1ted seats rn study hall We lost only one Dor1s Dllgard but commg to ftll the vacancy was Kathleen Pryor John Pll'lSk1 and Jane McQuate Our class offtwrs were Prestdent Davld Kramer V1ce Prestdent Eddxe Haun Secretary Jane McQuate and Treasurer M1ke Sweet Mr John Wolgamuth was our class advxsor In our sophomore year we got Nev1n Bowers and Adalou Olderman We lost Don L1ndsey Lewts Bland and Cora Fryman Our offtcers th1s year were Presldent Carolyn Arnold Vxce Prestdent Jerry S1gr1st Secretary Ann Hootman and Treasurer Patsy Oxender Our Advtsor was Mr John Crumrtne Now we were jumors wtth only one more tmportant step ahead of us Our enrollment mcreas by two Charles Campbell and Cora Fryman Our only loss was Kathleen Pryor We elected Mrs Mary Loyd as our class advlsor and our offlcers as Prestdent Bob Roseborough Vtce Presldent AnnHootman Secretary Carolyn Arnold and Treasurer Jerry Stgrtst Our fmal year We were now Senlors havmg reached our long dreamed of goal For our offlcers th1s year we elected the followmg Prestdent Jane McQuate V1ce Presndent Nev1n Bowers Secretary Carolyn Arnold Treasurer Jerry Stgrxst For our Semor class advxsor we agaxn selected Mr John Crumrme Havmg lost Janet Kerth our graduatlng class w1l1 constst of seventeen semors Carolyn Arnold Nevm Bowers Cora Fryman Eddte Haun Ann Hootman Ralph Howell Davxd Kramer Carolyn Kuchenbecker Jane McQuate Adalou Olderman Patsy Oxender John Ptnskx Bob Roseborough Jerry S1gr1st M1ke Sweet Lawrence Thompson and Donna Weltmer. 9 9 - 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 a 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 - - . CLASS PIHIPIIECY l had recelved word that workmen on the planet earth had Just uncovered a building in the ancrent v1llage of Polk I boarded the f1rst avarlable rocket there and landed at New York I traveled to Polk by way of an antique vehicle called a Ford When I arrived I learned that the bu1ld1ng had been called a school. The anc1ent c1v111zat1ons used th1s bu11dmg to hold classes to teach their offspring the knowledge of the day At the site of the excavation I entered through the main door picked my way through the debris on the steps and discovered the office There I found evrdence of a great mov1e star DONNA WELTMER The records told of her start in the Semor Class Play She then declded to conttnue her career and became the star in the film series The Adventures of Dusty Donna Further research drsclosed that EDDIE HAUN ongtnated and cnrected this f1lm series His w1fe CORA FRYMAN owned the company Wh1Ch fllmed 1I Eddle started out playmg basketball for the Globe Trotters but upon his marriage to Cora he had to g1ve ll up Cora it seems wanted her husband at home and at work with her She had qu1te a b1t of money and so bought the movmg plcture company and bribed him by offerlng h1m the Job of dlrector Wandering arotmd the buildlng I chanced upon the music flles Here I d1SC0Vel'9d HCWSDBPSI' and CAROLYN KUCHENBECKER who accompamed her on the piano They had done qu1te well for themselves Thetr motto was Sooner or later almost everyone turns to the h1lls Of course we were bound to find some record of PATSY OXENDER Even people on Mars have tasted her famous P1cad1l1y Pickles We found that she had a part m the Semor Class Play but decided that there was no future in II so she turned to plckle p1ck.1ng and processing As the workmen dug further they dlscovered a newer addition to the school. The sign over the entrance was Kramer s Krappy Kornor Beauty School Tlus I discovered had been owned and operated by DAVID KRAMER One of his classmates RALPH HOWELL was teaching the art of marucurmg As they excavated the school yard they d1scovered a railroad track Decidmg to follow it I hlred six strong workmen to d1g it out About half a m11e down the track we found the remains of an express tra1n wh1ch bore the Flcklebottom Express Much to my surprise I discovered that the conductor was one of my ancestors BOB ROSEBOROUGH He had married CAROLYN ARNOLD who worked as an entertatner m the club car At home Bob was chief cook and bottle washer while Carolyn took care of their four duldren Dtggmg stlll further we discovered a beautiful farm house with a large stable This upon entermg I dlscovered belonged at one ume to JERRY SIGRIST He had become a famous jockey and had many troplues to prove it Upon ret1r1ng, he bought this farm and opened a rest home for members of his Semor Class to whom he taugmt horseback nding. clippings about a great hillbilly band. It was headed by ANN HOOTMAN, who played the fiddle,
