Congratulations! You have achieved one of life’s great miles- tones, graduation from high school. You are now embarking on that magical journey toward a career and will now come to light as you begin your career preparation. Those of you who have pre- pared wisely will find many doors open to you that can only be opened through education. For those that have not mastered the difficult feat of setting career goals, all is not lost, there is still time to strive to reach them and still time to change plans. It is not too late! Time is not to be wasted! Now is the time to make those deci- sions. Society is becoming so complex, knowledge is increasing so rapidly, only those who have built a solid educational foundation in high school will be able to keep abreast of the information deem- ed necessary in our society. Your high school years form the basis upon which your whole future is built. Keith McMann TO THE GRADUATING SENIORS: Congratulations on your graduation. Your gradua- tion day has been an important goal for most of your last four years in Polk High School. I hope you will continue to have many goals in your future. The climax of the evening was the crowning of the king and queen. Fol- lowing the banquet was a dance held by Knorr Enterprises. The bounty of colorful streamers, lavender, peach, light blue, and pink were flying all night long as the night was danced away. Mr. Ritta acknowledges Se- nior boys for their accom- plishments. Ready and waiting!?! Athletics === Athletics gives students the opportunity to work with others and to benefit from team efforts. Dedication, hard work and tal- ent are the three important in- gredients to the road to success. Sometimes success doesn’t rise over defeat just as in life we have to face a few losses. But, what’s a few losses against the winning cubs. 7 ollievhall ——_ Scoreboard L cuns_oss 0s Wg - + vYi % Varsity (3-9) s S| ci cuss_ ° -_cuss_ aa = ' : = Marquette Fairmont CRC Tournament Rising City Bradshaw Benedict ri ; ' wm we bd bo Varsity Back Row: Coach Boardman, S. The 1986 Football Season was filled with many exciting and memorable moments, for both the team and fans. Each Season, dreams and goals are set in hope of playing in the State Champi- onship Game, for Polk, this dream came one game short, as the Cubs reached the Semi-fi- nals Undefeated and rated 1 in the State, before being turned away by Sidney St. Pats, the eventual State Champions. Paul Van Housen also set a State Record in Rushing for a Single Season by an Underclass- men. Paul was runner-up for the State Rushing title, and made the State 1000 yard Rushing Club. Many hours of hard work and commitment to become a com- petitive and respected Football Team has paid off. C———! hove Basketball The 1986-87 boys basketball team had a successful campaign of 14 and 4. We played a tough schedule of C-2, D-1, and D-2 teams. Only 6 of our games were against opponents with losing records and 9 games were against top ten rated teams. As a team our expectations and goals were high. We had vis- ions of qualifying for the state tournament and getting a chance to play Clearwater. This was not meant to be as we came up four seconds short in the dis- trict final game.
