Put it in file 13 The Betty Crockers of Polk Athletics FOOTBALL Although the 1981 football team compiled a dismal 1-8 record, it was not an indication of the experience gained. The squad of 19, which consist 14 underclas n, ially outweighed and under expe- rienced. The players showed their “pride” and “character” the entire season. Some of the _ brighter moments in the season were the win over Nebr. Christian, even with the hour black out. Greg Dose rushing for 725 yards, Ben Redmans 35 yard gained around for a T.D., the swinging gate, and the improvement by the younger players. An expres- sion that could be used for this team was “never say die.” In the last two games the cubs scored on the last play of the game, and from long distances. ‘ya ae Se eres rich 5 Back Row (Left to Right) Greg Dose, Mark Goertzen, Jim Fisher, Brian Tonniges, Ben Redman, Steve Anderson, Asst. For this was a year of rebuilding and learning. A traditionally rugged schedule haunted the cubs this season. Polk lost three games to the Class “D” state champions, two games to the district runner up, and five games to Class veing a district champion. The cubs ended their season on a positive note though, winning two of the last three games. Heading the team in leadership and scoring was the lone returning letter winner from last year, Greg Dose. Scoring 337 points and averaging 18 points a game, Greg was asked to carry much of the teams load early in the season. r fway through the seas g poi for a 12 points a game average. Seniors Paul Blender and Kevin Blase played a big role with leadership and rebounding.
