They were Mrs. Kuecker - science, Mr. Roth - Math- ematics, Mr. Best - Government, Miss Kotre - Music. This was a very busy year for them after we gave them their “Teacher's Initiation.” They all liked their first year at Polk, and I’m sure the students enjoyed them too. Last year, Polk received a new Superintendent, Mr. Lindquist. We interviewed him and Mr. Newman to get their opinions on different topics. Mr. Lindquist, expected a good group of kids at Polk. His main goal was to develop a warm, congenial relationship between student-teacher. His hobbies include golf, and he’s really interested in high school athletics. His degrees include Ba- chelor of Science, Master in Educa- tional Administration, both from Kansas State. Mr. Newman has been Principal at Polk High for two years. He felt his second year at Polk was going great. Some of his goals were to help kids learn and to succeed in life. The Junior class had a busy year trying to raise money for the Junior-Senior Prom. They started off by selling magazines where they raised about $1700. Then, throughout the year the class held a number of cake raffles which helped add to the class’ fund. The Juniors also sponsored the Prom for the Seniors which was one of the main events of the spring. They are looking forward to their Senior year. They picked up corn to raise money and held a variety of cake raffles. During games. everyone took part in consessions. On May 3 the Seniors traveled to World's of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri. The girls were Cindy, Ginger Albin, Pam Willits, Jenni Harrington, and Tami Lopez. They started their work in September and finished in May. All-Sports Banquet This year’s All-Sports Banquet was held on April Il, at the Elementary School Gym. The Banquet was buffet style served by members of the eighth grade class. After the banquet, awards were given to the athletics for all of their great performance. Special Awards were given to Mr. Rich Owens and Mr. Mike Fleming for their tremendous contributions to the school and to the students. Band The marching band was organized in the fall and marched in the Melody Roundup Parade in Hastings on October Il, and the Veteran's Day Parade in Central City on November Il. The pep band played at a number of football games and several of the home basketball games. Concert band played two selections on the Christmas program and will go to contest in the spring. Sr. High members will also be participating in the Goldenrod Conference Band Clinic, held in March.
