CUB-IN Which animals do people most eagerly seek out when visiting circuses, parks or zoos? The cubs, of course. Ask these same people why and you will fet many different answers. However most will agree they wish to see the cubs ecause they are spirited. The cub, by nature, is a curious and high spirited creature-one who has a real zest for living. In selecting the theme for this 1966 yearbook the seniors felt that the most dominate factor of their final year was school spirit. Whatever was attempted and whatever was achieved at Polk High School for the year 1965-1966 was done with spirit. Courage, vigor and enthusiasm-in a word-spirit-characterized such diverse activities as football victories, low hurdle races, music festival performances, geometry assignments, banquets, lunch lines and sneak day frolics. The seniors decided that there was no better way to symbolize the Polk spirit than to use our school mascot- the spirited Polk Cub. The theme for this year's annual is the Cub whose spirited activities be they academic or athletic are the very meaning of the past school year. The class of '66 wishes also to pay tribute to the spirit of the Polk community whose sponsorship makes this yearbook possible and whose support of the school activities all year long has made them especially meaningful. A very special thank you is extended to Mr. Dean Leigh for many of the fine photographs with which he supplied us. His was certainly a spirited contribution. Finally we hope you the reader will catch some of the spirit which was the class of '66. If you do this the '66 Cub will have been a success. Sincerely, Co-Editors — Arlyce Lind Allan Neuhaus

Man, since the beginning, has cher- ished the dream for his off-spring to attain greater heights than he. This cherished dream, now a reality, is here for all who wish to take advantage. This Senior Class can and will do this, for they have both desire and ability. I am both happy and proud to have been a part of your educational growth, even for this brief time. The very best to all. William E. Thompson, Principal For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time todance; What gain has the worker from his toil? I have seen the business that God has given to the sons of men to be busy with. These words from Ecclesiastes describe a school year with its many times, demands, and results. Each of these times has occurred in each area of school: scholastics, athletics, dra- matics, music, any class, or any ac- tivity. Probably one of the most valuable skills any of us can develop is that of knowing the right time at the right time. Best wishes to you, seniors, and other members of Polk schools in all of your times. Walter C. Nielsen, Superintendent - -V 2
