Not knowing anyone we decided to ask the policeman on the corner (beg your pardon, policew'omart) where we could find a good place to stay. To our surprise she looked familiar and then we remembered her as the former ANNETTE WILSHUSEN, now and for the past few years the happy wife of DUANE JOHNSON who we meet when we accept Annette's supper invitation. Duane is now a driver on one of the coast to coast trucking lines, arter asking about our other former classmates they take us to the stadium where MARVIN NELSON is coaching his rough and tough football team. Although his team lost Marvin had Dlenty of action—pulling hair. Jumping arouna, etc. As you all know Marvin was oncet an All-American. After the game we hop into a taxi to go to a nlgnt club, and guess who is the driver, well it's JEANELLE KROGER. This is quite a surprise as we didn't think Jeanelle could drive that good, well don't kid yourself, she couldn't. We stop- ped at a ritzy night club and who is the singer and ballet dancer but SHERALEE HILL. She hasn't married yet but Marvin still takes her out. She told us that some of the others were around so after looking in musty cellars and dusty attics we find VERN SAMUELS who is chief pest exterminator at the one and only Pest Exterminating Co. in the United States (wonder how he rates). Incidentally, Vern did marry Na- ine Shultz. However we can't tarry too long so out we go and after walking around for a while we find ourselves in front of «respectable looking building. Curisoity got the best of us so we went in. Inalde we found « respectable looking man and much to our surprise it's CLAR- ENCE PEETZKE now professor, teaching not only Math but various Sci- ences. After we discuss certain things, Clarence takes us to his home where we meet his lovely wife the former MARLY CE SHOSTROM who has no occupation except that of housewife. Clarence leans over and pats a black curly head, (its not one of his children, but a guinea pig he is trying to cross with a rat for his science studies). We leave and saunter down the street and soon we see a race track. We see a cloud of dust, smoke, and a little flame. Coming a little closer we see BOB PETERSON burning the edges of the track with one of those new fangled flame throwers. That's too hot for us so on we go and here comes BAR- BARA WALKER the city's street cleaner. Barbara has it pretty easy now all she does is push a broom up and down the streets. oops, duck here comes an airplane pretty low, it lands and stops in the middle of the street and out steps MARILYN JOHNSON who Is the best pilot for Airplane Daredevils Inc. (Marilyn always did like excitement). We get In and fly to the other side of town where we find LEORA MEYER who Is designer for the most fashionable women in town. We take off again and land near the outskirts of town where a film Is being produced wnd who do we find but MARILYN LIND who now has won nationwide fame and also a few Oscar's as an actress. DONNA MONSON is now married to Roger Werner and is living on a farm near town. Now you may have been wondering Just who Is WE . Well it's FRANK OSTRANDER and EMIL ROSNO, who are now in the spotlight as the singers of the country. For the past few years they have beentournlng the country singing and making records of the popular hit tunes. if you are wondering if they are married, well it did happen, now they are happy with their families. Their wives names are unobtainable at present. Out banquet as Juniors we chose Hitch Your Wagon To A Star for our banquet theme. It was held on May k, 1951. The room was deco- rated with blue sky with silver stars scattered over It to represents sky at night. A floral garden made up the one side of the background representing a flower garden. A pink 51 was placed in a field of white. This was made by use of pink and white flower8. The sides were made of twisted streamers of grey and red making a very colorful outline. Thereceptlon roomit- self was outlined in grey and red with a grass mat for floor piece. The stage was gaily decorated with a red wagon with stars placed on it with red and grey streamers leading to a large silver star upon the curtain. This depicted the theme of the banquet. On the other half of the stage we find the motto of this years class We Build the Ladder Upon Which We Climb. The tables formed a star setting the guests on the outside. The top was white, trimmed with a small red trim on the inside. At each point a red candle was placed. Where each point met toward the middle was placed a large silver star flanked by flowers. Streamers from the points twisted to- ward the center where there was a light shining brightly toward the heavens. Speechs were made by the followings Prank Ostrander as Master of Ceremonies; Jim Klingsporn as Senior Response; Annette Wilshusen sang; Jean- elle Kroger spoke; Emil Rosno cracked a few Jokes; from the heavens there was heard a piano duet by ' 1 Marlyce Shostrom and Sheralee Hill; Milky Way was given by Duane Johnson; and Superintendent Leamons { brought the program to a close. • j The meal was prepared by the Junior Mothers and served by the following Sophomores: Virginia Harding, Lois Miller, Harriet Bush, Gaylen Holmes, Dale Peterson, Donald Nyberg, and Janice Jones served as hat check girl. CLASS l'CEM It has been four years when class of '52 .first applauded the colors, white and royal blue. N.ow we have come to the graduation day And a fond farewell to all, we must say. V e entered high school with many a fear, when first we began that Freshman year. Initiation we will never forget, kemories of that day lingers with us yet. As sophisticated Sophies we had much to learn, Algebra and History, we did spurn. But it didn't take us long to find out We really had nothing to shout about. As Jolly Juniors we presented our class Dlay And the Junior-Senior Banquet was surely bright and gay. Gathering scrap psper, to make a little money, The way we had to work, it really wasn't funnyi How as Seniors, we've come to the open gate. With Determination and Labor, Success will await, from folk High, to a world with opportunities we go In Life, where, with God, a wonderful future we know. CLASS fLAY THIS LIGHTING FISHERS The fighting Fisher family are down to their lest borrowed nickel because fop Fisher has been counting on the eventual success ui his paint business. What he needs is capital, and the arrival of Charles W. Griffith, retired stock broker, to discuss financing the project brings hope to the family that their penny-pinching is at an enu. it looks pretty good until the Fisher kids, fergy and Bill, come face to face with Griffith's undisciplined tribute of four noisy, destructive adolescent brats. Fisher has told his wife, Elsie, and the two child- ren, that they must bend over backwards to see that the Griffith mob have a good time, because, Fisher has learned the Griffith children run Griffith. He tells feggy that she and her brother must take the Griffith kids to a movie, an edict to which Peggy rebels since she is planning to attend a high school honor banquet with her one and only Mitch Curruthers. Then the Griffith entourage arrive. There is Don Griffith, the wolf who Immediately invites poor Peggy to a party the very night of the banquet; Mildred the spoiled brat who makes long distance calls on the phone to NewOrleans and Toledo; Jerry, the young wild man, and Norma, who still plays cowboys and Indians. They start out by breaking thewindows of Mrs. Perkins. the Fisher's neighbor, and leading the poor woman on a wild guoas ousse as sne trioa zo catch them, but things come to a head when Mitch Curruthers has a fight with Don Griffith, knocking him cold. The Fishers try to hide this from Griffith unsuccessfully, and, when he finds out he practically tears the roof off. Jerry and Norma borrow Bill's flivver to evade Mrs. Perkins, not knowing the car is short of rear license plate. When a telephone call tells Griffith the little angels are in the city klink, he merely explodes. The deal is off! Then Mitch's mother comes up with a fantastic scheme to get Griffith back and tame his kids. It doesn't work, leading only to iqore complications with more troubles for the Fishers and more laughs for the Audience. The five Seniors who will not play nextyear are: Vern Samuels Frank Ostrander, Duane Johnson, Marvin Nelson and Bob Petersen. On August 22nd, the first football practicewas called. Three re- gulars returned and a host of boys that were willing to learn. Coach Phillips had the job of nearly reconstructing awhole new team. The big job was training a quarterback. Kenny Bowers was chosen for the Job and was coming axong nicely until one ni«ht  t practice he broke his collar bone, and so the job was to do over, Verland Widga, was then chosen to take his place. By the time of the first game the 21st of September we were in tip-top condition, and sights of a good season ahead of us. The first game was a home game with Genoa, it was a good football n ght, cool, and not much wind. Polk was the first to draw blood in the first quarter making the score fe-0. In the second quarter Polk again went goalward making the score 12-0. This was all the scoring in the first half. After the half the Polk team played what you call a poor excuse of football, letting up and not scoring at all. Genoa managed to cross the goal in the fourth period thus making the final score 12 to 6 and a victory for the Polk squad. This victory brightened the Polk outlook for the repeat Conference Chanpionshio. Next the Polk squad toured to Shelton t.o , lay a non-conference tilt The first half of this game was scoreless witn the Polk squad playing very poor ball. In the second half Polk came out fighting mad and ran over Shelton 31 to 0, with hard running and some beautiful passes. Next was a conference tilt with Clarks. It was raining and the field was like an over grown mud hole. Polk scored the first time they re- ceived the ball and looked good until a punt was blocked and scooped up by the Clarks team to score and tie the contest up. The rest of the game was a see-saw battle only to end in a tie. Thus giving the Polk squad a win and a tie in the conference. The next game was with Osce- ola on their field. The first half was a scoreless battle with the bigger Osecola team out playing the Cubs. Then in the latter part of the third quarter a punt return was fumbled only to have Osecola re- cover on the five and four plays later score. The Polk squad could not cross the Osceola goal and lost 6-0 and their first conference loss. The next game was at home with Silver Creek visiting. Polk used the subs the whole last quarter of the game and still piled up a 1+4 to lip score. Polk was by far the superior team in this non-confer- ence tilt. October the 26th, Polk played their arch-rival, Stromsburg on the Polk field. It was a night not fit for a dog (raining now and then) to be out. The game started with both teams fighting to get a score. The first half wus a slam-bam game with neither team scoring. Each team getting its amount of the breaks. In the third quarter the Polk team pushed across the goal and thus made the score 6-0, the ex- tra point was missed. The game looked like it was in the bag for Polk until a fumble by Polk was turned into a touchdown by Stromsburg mak- ing the score 6-6, with Stromsburg missing the extra point too. This tie gave Polk a win, a loss, and two ties in the conference. The next game v as a non-conference tilt with St. Marys, Polk won the game by a 19-7 score. This game was a good show of football by the Polk team and the St. Mary's team also. The highlight of this game was an 8? yard run down the middlo by Gaylen Holmes on a kickoff return, men came the night all Seniors hate to see. We toured to St. Paul to play with Frank Ostrander, Duane Johnson, Marvin Nelson, Vern Samuels, and Bob Petersen, for the last time in high school to put on the football- suits. This was a hard fought game by both teams with Polk driving over for the lone touchdown of the game and winning 6-0. In the end Polk had five wins, one loss, and two ties for the season, and placed third in the conference with two wins, two ties and one loss.
