CLASS POEM We, The Seniors We had our time as day by day. We came to Polk to work and play. We're leaving now with tears in our eyes. For it s time to give our last goodbyes. Goodbye dear friends that we have known, To us true friendship you have shown. Goodbye to the campus and the school, It was here we learned the golden rule. Goodbye to the times that we had. Whether they were good or bad. For it was through our work and play. We've been prepared for future days. We're going into the wide-wide world. With Polk High learning like a flag unfurl'd; Let's bear that banner really high. That the American way may never die. We're headed for wars, world of trouble. We'll falter not, but work redoubled Polk High has helped each one or us, So let's succeed, nIn God We Trust.” CLASS PLAY f,The Campbells Are Comingn The Campbells Are Coming” is a hilarious farce with hillbilly trimmings, describing the most effective technique for getting rid of an undesirable suitor. Kaye Brannigan returns from a girls' school chock-full of culture. Much to her family's disgust, she breaks with sturdy, dependable Jeff Scudder and announces her engagement to a young snob, Kingston Campbell, Learning that Kingston's aristocratic mother believes that the Brannigans are hillbillies and that Kingston and his mother are coming for a visit to find out the truth, the re- sourceful Brannigans disguise themselves as hillbillies and receive the guests during the absence of Kaye, who has hastened to a nearby city to purchase everything from caviar to tuxedos in order to impre» the Campbells, The Brannigans appear barefoot, dressed in rags and carrying shotguns, frightening the Campbells half out of their wits by mistaking them for Vevenooers.” One riotously funny situation follows another in rapid succession. An old hen lays an egg in Mrs, Campbell's ritzy hat, Jeff starts a feud witn Kingston and chases him with a rifle. Mrs, Campbell faints and is accidentally revived from a jug of moon- shine, under the influence of which she makes some startling revela- tions regarding her past life and identity. At last Kingston indig- nantly refuses to marry Kaye, and the Brannigans rejoice that their scheme has worked. Then, Just as the Campbells are about to depart, in walks Kaye, wrathfully demanding explanations. xhe Brannigans finally explain and Jeff turns cave man in order to win Kaye.
