Our first year at Seminary has brought us many new and strange experiences, We give our thanks to the older students and faculty that helped us get acquainted with the wonders of this new school life. We are proud of our accomplishments in this first year. Our student council representative was Douglas Hill, who did a fine job. We were well represented in the school band and orchestra, and also had some girls on the library staff. Ann Gould was our class reporter for the Seminarian. Our boys did very well in football, basketball, and track. They were supported by a fine class cheer leader, Sugar Smolanovich. We are looking forward with enthusiasm to the fun and knowledge that each new year will bring to the Class of l958. The members ot the orchestra Worked hard and had a great deal ot fun in practicing tor their various programs. Our orchestra played successfully for both the Iunior and Senior plays by providing well chosen selections between the acts of each play. Poland's annual P. T. A. Christmas Party was a great success. Besides their traditional Christmas carols, our orchestra furnished music tor a student production, Santa Claus is Corning to Town. The big event for the orchestra this year was their part in the Spring Music Festival. Mr. Lehto directed us in a highly entertaining program. Our last engagement of the school year was Commencement. Last Sepedwe decided that we could promote better understanding between the older and younger girls of the school by getting to know each other better, so now each Y-Teen has a seventh grade girl as her little sister. We've tried to make the girls feel more at home here at Poland l-ligh. We hope they always feel free to come to us with their problems. Last fall, immediately preceding our recognition service, we had a cas' serole dinner for all the Y-Teens and their mothers. Some of the girls put on a skit entitled Meeting at Four, displaying fine acting ability. This spring we had our annual Sophomore Tea and Command Performance and the climax of our eventful year was the banquet and installation service in May. ln addition to the meeting at which some of lucky cabinet members de- scribed their experiences at Camp Ticonderoga and Ann Weese told a bout the club presidents' conference at Ohio Wesleyan, the girls will always remember the meetings about beauty and fashions, boy-girl relations, the way to check rumors, and careers for women. Many of our club members took their best beaus to the annual Touch- down Toddle at the Elm's and the Spring Formal at ldora, which were for all the Y-Teens of the Youngstown district. A new district activity which Poland Y-Teens participated in and set an enviable record at was the Y-Teen Basket' ball League. Congratulations, girls!! Belonging to Y-Teens truly helps one to know and understand herself and others. lt's a wonderful experience f one that no girl should miss. A prologue started the play on its merry way with two angels lAnn Weese and Ray Ungerl descending to earth to pick up a couple of elderly souls, Augusta Applegate tlane Hilll, a wealthy and sarcastic spinster, and Herman Howell tDon Bergmanl, a kindly, retired sailor. However, their mission is complicated when a mischievous would-be angel, Pilone by name fBob Yankol, joins them in a kind of a heavenly hitch-hike. When the angels get to earth they find that Herman is ready to go: but Augusta, who has spent a lifetime accumulating her wealth, definitely does not want to part with it. Augusta's two nieces, Orpha fSue Lovelll and Millie CSusan Dearingl, are vainly trying to interest Aunt Gus, as they affectionately call Augusta, in giving her money to them. Orpha is a social climber with mercenary ideas of a marriage for her daughter, Ruthie tloann Coloutesl, to a rich hypochondriac lFred Elderl. Millie has an inventor-husband lBill Philpottl and a daughter, Iune lludy Thomasl, who is engaged to marry handsome Richard White tChuck Gouldl. And we f:an't forget Diana Cludy Mclfarlinl, Augusta's frus- trated maid, who has just been iilted for the eleventh time. Pilone soon finds that he can make two people fall in love, simply by a kiss, therefore completely influencing the romances, finances, and fates of Augusta, her relatives, her maid, and Herman Howell. In fact, he gets into so much mischief that it looks as if the angels might be stranded on earth-the worst fate that could befall any heavenly soul. But when Pilone kisses Augusta and Herman, making them fall in love with each other, he really puts himself and the two angels on a spot. Augusta and Herman take a stronger grip on life, thus leaving Agnes and Wilfred fthe two angelsl, earth-bound unless and until they can find two souls who are willing to go. Diana, the maid, suddenly and dramatically qualifies as an angel. Pilone, who has fallen in love with Diana, comes to a very important decision--that of taking on a full-fledged angelhood so as always to be near Diana. He is re- warded with his other wingg and the final curtain closes on four happy angels, concentrating with all their might on beginning their ascent back to heaven. The Senior Class joins the play cast in extending its sincere appreciation to Miss Iohnson, the director of Down to Earth. This is an inaugural year' Our own land begins a new presi- dential era. England assumes a new ruler. And YOU open the page to a new and exciting chapter in your own life's story! But stop for a moment before you begin! Check your equipment and understand your best dreams. Then take to the path that leads to success with confidence. There will be disappointments, of course . . . when your goal seems far off and the course rugged. But remember that many have vested their hopes in you . . . just as America looks to llce as England is revived by the wholesome- ness of Elizabeth. And so it is YOUR year of commencement . . . YOUR moment at challenge . . . YOUR year of inauguration! Add our name to your list of friends who are certain that you will reach the high pinnacle of Joy and success.
