John Fake grad- uated from Notre Dame University with honors. While in the service, he worked in the Pentagon, and from there he came to PCS, which was indeed a lucky break for us. Today he makes his home in Ilion, with his wife and his young son. Although he has only been teaching in our school for three years, we feel as though we have always known him. As our Junior Class Advisor, he helped us through the rough times and cheered us along when we needed him most, never refusing anything we asked of him. As a teacher, he has strengthened our educa- tional ground, and as a friend has helped us with whatever problems we may have had--always understanding and sympatheti Mr. Fake has undoubtedly made the burden lighter and the path easier to follow. So it is to him we proudly dedicate the 1961 Kuyahooran. Thank you, Mr. Fake! C APPRECIATION To Mr. william Munn, who has served us faithfully for twenty-two years, not only in his work, but as a friend. Mr. Munn was a member of the school board at the time our school was opened, and has served the school in numerous ways ever since. when we need assistance, we turn to Mr. Munn. We certainly speak for the whole school, fac- ult as well as students Y 'v when we say we deeply HPPYB' ciate all he has done for us. We shall miss him greatly when he retires, APPRECIATION To hrs. Frances Warren, our librarian, the Class of 1961 wishes to express its deepest appreciation. By giving generously of her time and energy, she made our Senior Play possible. We remember her from our grade school days as al- ways willing to help us-- whether it was books we needed, or help in some other form. Today she is still the same--never too busy for any of us. We'll never forget her patience and guidance throughout the years. ROA' ONE: DIANE Flaw, Dcnuwv Nswmx, Sr-HRLEY Bmmvcw, JOAN: Lzuicwm, GLoRnA VAUL, FAITH Hzlsm, SHARON Rumen. In September of this year, the Senior Band made its debut at the annual school fair. Its second undertaking was the annual trip to Cor- nell University for Band Day, where it was one of 65 bands participating. During the months of September and October the band also played for several parades in the area. In the early part of December they shared a benefit per- formance at Proctor High School for underpriv- ileged children. On the nineteenth the annual Christmas Concert was presented in the school auditorium, with a tym- pani solo by Gary Chaf- fee and a trombone solo by Tony Lehman. Sev- eral band members at- tended the January all- county sectionals at Herkimer High School. Thereafter the band pre- pared for Contest, where they received their state rating. TI-IER USE. W OCIFVMEAVV 4W- 2 I PARTY or THE FIRST PART O M53 8 MRS. THAYER PRESENTS THE PRDERE55 During the past twenty-five years progress has been rapidly changing the pace of the country -- from radio to colored T.V., from the twenty-mile per-hour speed limit to the jet age. Progress has also been changing the pace here at PCS, where our student body has increased from 405 to nearly 800, and our teaching staff from 52 to 48. Before we centralized in 1956 there were twenty-one today there is one left, in North Gage, and that will be Where originally we had four maintain two station wagons, Our cafeteria was built later, it serves between 400 which will open in September busses, today we use eight, a pick-up truck and a spare to serve 150 students. Now, and 500 lunches daily. The , will be nearly three times district schoolsg closed this June. and in addition emergency bus. twenty-fiveyears new cafeteria, larger. Our Health Department has also expanded through the years under the supervision of Dr. Herbert N. Wallace and Mrs. Lydia Rommel Brady, school nurse. Today the department includes a dental hygienist and looks forward to the services of a part-time nurse in addition. In a recent newspaper article we read: nThe Poland Central School has been commended by Department for its excellent one of the best in the State Coach Howard Chaffee, now in teaching at PCS, has this co creased number of pupils has gram of sports activities. With more we can offer more activities, pation is tremendous. The new gym is the State Health health program... Among other departments, muslc has grown steadily more important with us. In 1950 a well equipped bandroom was provided. Today we number four music instructors on our staff: two band direct- ors, a piano teacher and a vocal instructor. The commercial department has added many features to its program, at present under the supervision of Mrs. Ellen Griffin and Mr. John Fake. Among the courses added in the past three years are shorthand, office practice and secretarial practice. New machines such as the Stenorette and adding machines have been purchased, together with a new mimeograph machine for the Press Room, where the school newspaper, FLASH, is prepared. As for our school library, Mrs. Frances warren, our li- brarian, says that the shelves house 6ooo volumes where once there were 2000. The addition of several new services has also marked the growth of PCS These include guidance, which opened in 1955 with our first director, Mr. Walter Schickg elementary science coordination, and driver training education The school itself was enlarged in 1957 by four new grade rooms in the garage, an additional wing, and conversion of storage rooms and faculty rooms into classrooms. This year, twenty new classrooms are being added. So, PCS has grown, along with the rest of the world. While space ships are being invented, the minds of boys and girls are being trained to meet the challenge. 0 dffLJ ZCQLUELQLAJ CHU ADVERTISING It pays to advertise. agnlhf, 41 PATRIIIN5 S5 Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Dr. A Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. d Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. H Mrs Mr. Q Mrs Mr. 3 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. Q Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. a Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 5 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. d Mrs Mr. A Mrs Mr. K Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. 8 Mrs Mr. Q Mrs Mr. d Mrs John watanen Charles Lovell Leo Heller George warren Oscar Blatt Harver Prindle John Fake Bernard Przelski Timothy Snyder Lester Sheldon Dean Flansburg Charles Redmond Theodore Paul George Rapp Lawrence Caldwell Willis Hampston Donald Brady Anthony Bandych D.R.
