Boys'and 6irls'State The opportunity to represent Poland Central School at Boys' and Girls' State last year came to us through the efforts of the American Legion Adirondack Post lll8. In their Junior year, Mary Lou Phillips and Terry Wilcox were chosen for this honor. Mary Lou went to New Paltz State Teachers College, and Terry journeyed to Colgate University for a week in June to learn the funda mentals of government. 1 CIBYICB Agggd The Bausch and Lomb Science Award was won by Richard Ulinski this year for attaining the highest scholastic standing in high school science sub- jects. This award will be given to Dick at graduation. N41 I EG O I I Oraiory For the past four years Poland has participated in the American Legion Oratorical Contest Lenore Young, Roberta Rommel and Emily Dunmore have represented us in the county finals. This year Lenore placed second, last year Roberta won fourth place, and in l957 Emily placed fourth. The first year that we entered the contest, Lenore placed third.
