K TER OKEY KEEPER BILL STEVENS PHYLLIS CHEESEBREW NAOMI HUFFMAN JUANITA YOST had dectded that Mr and Mtss Venus were to be Betty Jo Watson and Dwayne Ktdwell, We congratulated them and went on wtth our shoppmg Fxrst we ured the Keenerette Shop owned by NINA KEENER Nxnagreetedus and Introduced us to her sales glrls PATTY FRUTH EILEEN PLANTS JOAN SPENCER and MARIE MARTIN Next we passed the kttchen utenslls where we saw the Venus Play boys sttll bachelorsafter all theseyears They were none other than HOWARD STURGEON BOB WORKMAN WILLIAM MAYES LIONEL WOLFE CURTIS BURDETTE and LAVERN BLAINE buymg utens1ls for thetr apartments After buytng a few souventrs from IMOGENE ELLIOT DGIOTHY LITCHFIELD ANN MC COY and BARBARA MAYES we were on our way back to the hotel Then we saw RICHARD SINES and LANDIS WANDLING the local dog catchers chasmg a poor lxttle dog but he got away After reachmg the apartment we fmlshed packmg and rang for the porters whom we recogmzed as DAVID SAYRE and WILBER STEPHENS Arrtvtng at the atrport we boarded our rocket and headed for the Earth Whtle travehng we remmtsced about our Venus Hohday and the wonderful time we had wxth all our schoolmates and al though Venus was all me travel folders had adverused we preferred the Earth PHYLLIS MELTON and MARY ESTHER TENNANT CLASS HISTORY In September 1951 204 students boarded the1r prtvate space shtp as Pomt Pleasant I-hgh School They were gomg on a four year tr1p 1nto space searchmg for knowledge The ptlot the ftrst year was our prtnctpal Mr C H Wtthers The co ptlots and weathermen were Mrs F1lson Mrs Stanley Mtss Ray Mrs Hal.l1day and Mr Dunn We elected as our stewards Jack Rogers V1rg1l Burrxs Hugh Graham Earl lcard and the log keeper Patty Buffmgton After many happy days the group landed and debarked for a three months vacation Agam tn 1952 the same group known now as Sophomores came back on board and agam went on the search We had a new p11ot Mr R H Ferguson The group was a ltttle more expertenced now but we Mr Rogers Mr Boggess We also had some new stewards They were Vtrgtl Burris Phyllts Melton Nancy Sayre J ack Rogers and the log keepers June Rogers and D1ck Austin. By the end of nme months we were ready for our three months vacatton We were now half way to our goal We came back 1n September as jumors We were really proud and ready to face anytlung that came before us Our ptlot was again Mr R H Ferguson For th1s n1ne months our co p1lot and weathermen were Mrs Foglesong Mrs Rayburn Mr Franklm and Mr J ordan. Our able stewards were Dick Austtn Claxr Lee Cottrill, Patty Buffmgton J ack Rogers and log keeper Bomue Aten. But due to a bout with poho V1rg1l Burns and Nancy Sayre also served as stewards The Fall of that year was a busy txme as the class presented You Can IKISS Carohne and received their class rmgs Everyone was exctted all sprmg becauseof our .Tumor Senior Banquet and Prom. We were the hosts wtth a theme of Make Beheve Soon after thts event we were agazn ready for a three months vacanon Starnng on the last attempt to f1nd knowledge the group had narrowed down to 139 semors We had a new ptlot Mr Benjarmn Frankltn IV The co pilots were Mrs Sterrett Mrs Beller Mrs Rouse Mrs Green and weathermen were Mr Putz Our stewards for th1s fmal tr1p were Clatr Lee Cottrxll Davxd Somerville, Phyllts Melton, Randall Garland and log keeper Dor1s Wellman We had a new expertence when the photographer came, portraits were taken and as sprmg came our acnvittes began to speed up we order our invltations make our guest list our class play was presented class day and skip day was held and we began pracuce for graduation Finally the day had arrtved we the class of 1955 had reached the end of our search We were the first semor class to graduate from our new Audttorxum Gymnasmm. There starmg at us from the cover was that famous 1-Iawauan star Hula Hula Lu Lu the former LILLIAN HUGHES As we lookedonwe came to an adverttsement for Rogers Rogers and Rogers Rockets owned and operated by JUNE GILBERT and J ACK ROGERS On the next page we read an artlcle whtch stated that Legs WELLMAN whom we knew as DQIIS, had insured her glamorous gams' for S500 000 000 each wluch she plans to mcrease gradually Under Dor1s wr1te up was a p1cture of the renowned Star Llghters in their glamorous star suits Qreading from left to righty GENEVIEVE ROLLINS CAROLYN NEWELL ELEANOR RAYBURN CAROL DABNEY and WANDA SIDENSTRICKER Q1 the next page were Several beef shots of RAY NEAL FRED NEWELL NELSON NOT T ROBERT BYER VALLIE BAUER, and ROBERT BROWN By this time we were nearing our destxnauon and as we lard our book down the back page looked rather familiar It was anold h1gh school pncture of CLAIR LEE COTTRILL and DICK AUSTIN who were up for re electron as Pres1dent and Vice President of Venus I felt a bump and learned from an other passenger who looked like he hadn t shaved for years that we had landed I hfted h1s beard to hear htm better and discovered it was OTHO NEWELL on his way to a screen test by producer FRANK ELLISON It was a lead in HUGH GRAHAM S new mus1cal His co stars would beRuttie Tudd1efRUTH BLESSINGJ and Dan Van QDAN VANSICKLEJ the Sensational Lovers of the decade. We wished htm luck as we went down the stairs In our reception committee were WANDA KENNEDY, THELMA RAINEY and J UDIT H MCGUFF IN some of our classmates from Point Pleasant On our way to the hotel ln a tax1 dr1ve.n by JACKIE PICKENS we passed a sand lot where some children were playmg basketball Jackie told us that it was the famous Barnett Five. Overseeing the game was Mrs P R Bennett the former PATTY JO BUFFINGTON and coaching was PAUL BENNETT As we readled the hotel we noticed a large crowd We looked closer to see that rt was a Fashton Show dlsplaying Venus new plastlc Bikinis w1th SARAH BURDETTE NANCY SAYRE BARBARA PETERS and BESSIE JONES as models The buyers BILL MILLER and GARY MINTON declded that the material would sell We asked the clerk whom we recogmzed as JIMMY WOODALL for PHY LLIS MELTON S and MARY ESTHER TENNANT S room keys As we turned around we saw MAXINE EARY descendmg the stalrs wrapped from head to toe m sable and satm She extended a d1amond clad hand to us and we wondered xf ll had been decorated by MILES DARST We started to enter the elevator but the operator MARGARET OLIVER, seemed unable to get xt stopped When we walked to the second floor we dxscovered the reason PAUL AUSTIN was pushing the up button wh1le RICHARD WOODARD pushed the down button Q1 the th1rd floor we saw DENNIS HALL and DORSEY BROWN holdmg a bucket of water Walllflg to glve BONNIE ATEN and DELORG CARLISLE a free shower when they fuushed moppmg the floor We wondered what else could happen, and we soon found out as we neared the fourth floor We saw HARVEY BLAIN and DALE BUCK mockmg GRACE SMITH'S famous walk As we were tlred of walkmg we caught the elevator There were three passengers on the elevator and who should they be but DAVID SOMERVILLE VIRGIL BURRIS and BILL CAPEHART We dxscovered that they were livmg tn the penthouse right over us We ordered our supper through room service and ll was dehvered promptly by FRED THORN JOHN MILLER and DON NOWLIN As we ate we read the Venus News edxted by BILL BLESSING Hts staff mcluded SALLY BENNETT PHYLLIS RIMMEY, CLEO HUDSON LUCILLE LEGUE,JEANSMITH and ALICE MAY PLANTS H15 dare devil reporters were BUTCH GREENLEE JIMMY MAYES, JOHN GLASS and hrs arttst was KEITH TERRY After readmg the paper we fell asleep About 5 00 A M we heard qutte a commotlon upstairs and went runnmg to see. Our netghbors were having a party which had lasted smce early yesterday evenmg. Through the smoke we recognized BILLY CARL RUTHERFGRD CHARLES STEPHENSON JOE KEEPER MAXIE LEWIS JIMMY BURNS, DONNABOLES JUNE MOSS,DONNA KERSTETTER and NANCY LUTTON There was so much smoke that we rnrssed the door and fell through a wxndow We landed on the awmng below DON RAINEY saw us falling and called the Ftre Department We were soon rescued by MONNETTE MC DADE, BARBARA LATHY PATTI GRAHAM, SHIRLEY PRUNTY BARBARA NGITHUP and DGUS YESTER We thanked the ladies and proceeded downtown for breakfast After giving the sleepy waitresses fwhom we recognized as J OANNE MOCRE and BETTY JO WI-IITTQ our check we bought a ticket for the wrestling matches between EILEEN THORNTON vs WILMA SHIRLEY BETTY CROMLEY vs PATTY CONNELLY DAVID DERINBERGER vs BOONE HUSSELL and ARTHUR HOFFMAN vs CARL KIMBERLING After breakfast we decided to go shopping and to witness the Mr and Miss Venus contest The contestants for Miss Venus were RUTH ROACH NADENE NIBERT EMOGENE CLINE GARNETTE WARNER MARY BEQCNER ROWENNA HAYMAN and BETTY JO WATSON The Mr Venus contestants were DWAYNE KIDWELL BENNY MC KINLEY, BOBBY LEPORT, JIMMY REY NOLDS JOE HAMMACK RANDALL GARLAND and EUGENE HOLLEY The judges, BOBBY MC CALLIS . .
