SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The seed broke open and as the roots spread in the darkness, we entered high school. In the eigth grade, we had been at the top, and suddenly, a few months later, we were just freshmen-the youngest again. We were starting a new life. Some of the luckier members had spent their eigth grade in the high school, but for the rest of us, we had to learn the hard way. We were immediately caught up in the confusion, the sea of strange faces, and the many books that made us wonder if we'd ever make it. But soon the new, exciting, and even a little scary, became routine. The soil was pushed away, and the green stem of the plant appeared. The light shone on us as we began as Soph- omores. We had a year behind us, and a long way to go. It was our second step in establishing the type of per- son and student we hoped to be. just as we began to feel tired of being underclassmen, the ring man ap- peared, and things began to look brighter. It was a new excitment, and we proudly flashed our rings to every- one, as the Sophomore classes before us must have done. The leaves began to appear on the stem, and the plant reached for the sun, displaying its new growth. We were juniors, and the future began to take shape. It was the first year we had a chance to choose our own subjects for the English and History departments. We knew we were upperclassmen when we could participate in Pow- der Puff Football for the first time. The Rock-a-thon went over successfully, and soon we were buzzing about 122

the Prom. In between the PSAT's and other tests that would help determine our future, we decided on the theme for our Prom. The gym was decorated with enthusiasm and soon the evening in which we were Search- ing So Long was upon us. We shed our everyday jeans, and in formal attire, we entered the magical world. The plant formed a bud, and in the warmth of the sun, the flower began to open. We suddenly realized we were Seniors, and the past three years had gone by faster than it seemed. This was the year of Senior privileges. Finally we didn't have to sit through boring study halls any more. Our bonfire went over big, and for those who spent the night sleeping out, it also went over cold. One of the highlights was our Senior Variety Show which kept us entertained, if not in hysterics. Our senior trip to Tamiment, Pa. will always be remembered. And last, but not least, our Senior Ball was a special night with memories we will never forget. The rose is in full bloom now, and its splendor and beauty is most noticable. four years are behind us, but they will never be forgotten for in our minds and hearts we will think of the good times we've shared, the friend- ships we've formed, and the knowledge we've learned. The door is opening and from graduation we will pass into a new life. As our nation celebrates 200 years of freedom and independence, we the class of 1976 look ahead to the challenge of tomorrow. And strengthened by our heritage we will accept with courage the new world to come. The years were enlightening, and perhaps before we pass through the doors, we may pause a few moments to reflect, and then continue on. 123
