BAND AND TWIRLERS Hours spent on Goudy Avenue and in the playground accounted for the smart appearance of the Marching Band during the football season. Displaying splendid teamwork. the twirlers and band, directed by Mr. Stet- ser. worked out a number of snappy formations for the game and provided a lively background for our Pep Rallies. Lorraine Iohnson fronted the band as Drum Maiorette and Iosie Blanco cap- tained our twlrlers. Rigorous rehearsals brought the band up to concert pitch. and it pro- vided entertainment for the Lions Club Amateur Hour and the Spring Music Festival. BAND lst ROW: I. Blanco. L. THE ADVANCED CHORUS The Advanced Chorus. directed by Mr. Stetser and composed of fifty-three members. has been one of the outstand- ing organizations in the school. This group. along with the Fresh- man Glee Club. highlighted the Christ- mas festivities with the presentation of the first traditional Carol Service. The senior honor solo O Holy Night was sung by Nancy Oxenford. The Band, Chorus, and Glee Club combined to make the Spring Music Festival a gala affair. The program con- sisted of semi-classical and popular selections. Accompanists were Ianet Moore. Beatrice Poland, and Ioseph Patterson.

PAN-AMERICAN CLUB One oi our most active clubs is the Pan-American Club sponsored by Mar- tin H. Russell. The aim of this new club is to foster understanding and to create better relationships between our Spanish speaking countries in Latin America. Besides studying the history and folklore oi South America and Spain. their fun includes leaming many dances, a few oi which are the Hhumba, the Tango. and La Raspa lthe Mexican shuiflel. GIRLS' ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Girls' Athletic Association is a sport program conducted under the su- pervision of Mrs. Betty Hammarberg. The club is comprised ol girls who are interested in advancing their skill in athletics. The purpose ot the club is to enable its members to gain practical ex- perience in teamwork, sportsmanship, and in playing against real competition. Several ot the various seasonal sports which they practice are volley-ball, basketball, softball, and badminton. Ormsby. 27 I Pi f SOCIAL DANCING CLUB One ot the newest organizations at Point Pleasant Beach High School, the Social Dancing Club, proved very popu- lar with the students. Meeting every Wednesday in the gymnasium, the group, under the direc- tion ol Mrs. Hammerberg and Mr. Weber. leamed many dance steps in- cluding rhumbas, tangos. sombas. waltzes. fox trots. and jitter-bug routines. Those persons having no previous ex- periences in this terpsichorean art learned the basic steps. Along with the stressing of the ability to execute these dance steps, its members were also schooled in a num- ber ot the social graces.
