EBB-TIDE STAFF When did you say the deadline is? Was, not is! This fragment of conversation illus- trates the hectic whirl involved in pub- lishing a yearbook. Comprised of many parts, the entire staff was at one in its purpose. to produce a worthwhile rec- ord boolr of their activities. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY One ol the greatest honors a stu- dent may achieve in Point Pleasant High is admittance into the National Honor Society. Chosen by the faculty and Honor Society members, one must lill the requisites ol scholarsh'p. service. leadership. and character. The local branch ot this organiza- tion. the Atlantic Chapter. was estab- lished ln May 1947 under the direction ol Mr. Raymond C. Bergen. The society lounded in 1921, was originally tormed to help stimulate and promote higher ideals ol citizenship. Scholastic abilities are to be recognized and rewarded as well as athletic interests. TRI-HI-Y The Trl-Hi-Y club ls sponsored by Miss Ethel Osmun. To build character is the purpose ol this club. This year the girls have enioyed listening to two spealrers. One was Miss Abernathy. supervisor ol the Girls Club in Asbury Park Y. M. C. A.. and Kay Hulse. a senior. gave a talk about personal ap- pearance. Each club period is divided into three parts. one lor business. an- other lor a discussion. and the last lor games and recreation. Meeting once a week the staff members are taught the fundamentals of school newspaper work. Through Mrs. Auleen V. Trammell's guidance. the efforts of the editor, Ethel Mae Smetts, and a staff composed of members from all classes, The Pointer has become another headline feature at Point. Through this experience in writing. they learn how to become efficient reporters. To encourage stu- dents to write. any person who has had articles printed in the Asbury Parlr Press, is rewarded a free excursion up the Hudson River. Mrs. Auleen V.
