This fragment of conversation illus- trates the hectic whirl involved in pub- lishing a yearbook. Comprised of many parts, the entire staff was at one in its purpose. to produce a worthwhile rec- ord boolr of their activities. It is not with a sigh of relief that we breathe now that our iob is done, but rather one of regret that an absorb- ing task is behind us. Meeting every Wednesday in the gymnasium, the group, under the direc- tion ol Mrs. Hammerberg and Mr. Weber. leamed many dance steps in- cluding rhumbas, tangos. sombas. waltzes. fox trots. and jitter-bug routines. Those persons having no previous ex- periences in this terpsichorean art learned the basic steps. Along with the stressing of the ability to execute these dance steps, its members were also schooled in a num- ber ot the social graces. They started the year with a Kick- Off Dance and held weekly pep rallies to arouse enthusiasm. The cheer liked best by the students and team was Come A Seven. The group's mascot fTommy Touch- downl along with the crepe-paper shim- mies made a colorful array on the field. This year's squad. coached by Mr. Kochlra and composed mainly of sopho- mores and freshmen. showed that good varsity teams can be expected in the luture. Although the record shows only four victories. it must be stated that seven of the losses were by four points or less. VARSITY BASKETBALL Point Pleasant's basketball season has been highlighted by the determina- tion of an inexperienced team. With a few players scoring consistently. Point lost many close games. In the annual contest with Polnt's alch rival, Manasquan. Point was lead- ing 12 to 9 at the half and an upset appeared probable. Through the second half it was evident, however. that once again a veteran team was going to conquer Point. The final score was: Manasquan 48. Point 31. The time has come when we must leave the friendships that were formed through our school years: we sever the association but leave the mirror intact. The reflection lingers on in the glass created by our experiences. All but the best images shall become nothing, lost and forgotten in our haste to meet the future. If ever these finest mem- ories dim. this, the reflection of our growth, will freshen the shadows of our years at Point High. It is with rather wry smiles that we look back to the day in '46 when we as freshmen first entered this school, some happy, some sad, and most of us, bewildered. We will long remember Freshman Day and the fact that we were the last to suffer its pangs. Class officers were elected with lirnmy Lewis as president: as soon as we were acquainted with each other, plans were immediately started for some entertainment. In the fall we made our first entrance into the social world with the Freshman Party. having a Halloween scene as the motive. The glass for the mirror was ready. Our sophomore year was really swell and we elected Bob Schlick to head our class. The Soph Hop, using the Star Light G1ide as its theme was quite successful and it was with pride that we watched the quick- silver added to the glass. The mirror was on its way to completion. We were glad to return to school in the fall and take our places as Upper Class- men. We had ambition and our aim that year was to put more money in our treasury so that our future yearbook and Senior Ball would be better than those of the previous years. We began eaming money by selling candy at school games. Then we were measured for our class rings and in March we were showing them off proudly. Plans for the Iunior Prom that we were to give for the seniors began early, but we took time off to join the seniors in a trip to see Mac- beth and a trip to Lake Success to see the United Nations was successful. We were quite happy when we learned that the jun- iors were going to New York to see Life With Mother. Our various sporting teams fought valiantly. but we did not have a victoriops year. Our President, Gloria Frazee, did a good job. CLASS Ill 'l'0llY As spring came we realized that soon the seniors would depart and we would be The Mighty. We gave them a big send- off with the Prom which had as a motive April Showers, with flowers and umbrellas transforming the gym into a land of enchant- ment. The mirror was now polished and ready to start reflecting Back in school we realized that this was the end of our four years and that although we would be glad to get out we would miss school Conrad Blackman chosen by popu lar vote headed our student government body We tried hard to make our senior year a good one and Edward Mangold was just the president we needed to do it The senior play Charley s Aunt star ring Bronson King was quite successful and headed our many activities Plans were made for the year book and Nome Herborn was elected editor in chief Our football team had a good year and topped off the season by playing a tie game with Manasquan our rival The school band under new supervision excelled itself and gave many excellent performances Lorraine Iohnson was the new malorette and Iosie Blanco became the captain of the twirlers. The cheerleaders had peppy Gloria Frazee to head them. Though very busy we took time out from school to go to New York and see Nina Foch in Twelfth Night. In February the class was invited to the Ocean County Centennial at Toms River and the class also gave its first dance of the year featuring Deerys Den Meanwhile work on Ebb Tide had been progressing the cover was changed to white and red instead of the usual maroon and gold or white and gold The staff gave several cake sales and a small profit was realized In March we went again to visit the United Nations in New York and a trip was planned to see another popular play The Variety Show was a huge success due to the tireless effort of the combined class talent New members were inducted mto the National Honor Society and everyone was quite proud Our year book was completed and many comments were made on its un usual modernistic layout Senior Night came and we had our last dance of our high school days the Senior Ball With the strains of Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot echoing in the night we said farewell and turned down the road of life to meet our future Al Seniors we went to New York to see Twelfth Night l . , . . . . . ,, , ,, . . , ' .
