I xx Q 8 A GUIDING LIGHT ALL ALONG THE WAY The heart of the school system centers around the offices at the southwestern end of the school building. In them We find the well- informed group of Workers that make up the office staff. These people form the backbone of our school system. At the head of this group is Mr. Hanley, Supervising Principal of the Albert Gallatin loint School System. Mr, Evans is Assistant Supervising Principal of Secondary Education and Mr. Fast is Assistant Supervising Principal of Elementary Education. The office centers around Mr. Walker, the Principal of Point Marion High School. lt is his job to make the many rules and regulations which our school goes by. lt is up to him to see that things are running smoothly. M11 Walker and Mr. Hanley are aided by two very efficient and competent secretaries, They are always ready to help us with any question or favor we ask of them. The office staff is a very necessary part of our school system, helping to make our school a better one. ALBERT GALLATIN IOINT SCHOOL SYSTEM COMMITTEE Row 1 fsittingl-I. Vance E Vignalli, H. One More Year For Memory Making! ln seventh grade, when we met in a some- what confused state, we were confronted with the wonders of the big high school, Almost before we becaime accustomed to this new, fast-moving school life, we were calling our- selves eighth graders. When we became Freshmen we first encountered our mortal enemyYAlgebral As Freshmen we also had civics and Pennsylvania history!Rernernber those projects? Next came our first year as members of senior high school. As Sopho- mores we had a new type subject-foreign languages. Some of us chose Spanish while others took Latin. Now at long last we are luniorsl The Iunior class has at last come into its own in the social whirl of the school. lts boys have helped spark the teams to victory during both the football and basketball seasons. Out- standing sportsmen such as Richard Blosser, Ralph Strimel, Marvin Travis, Bob Lockard, lerry Miller, Earl David Dillinger, lack Robbins, lames lohnson, Art larrett, and Hugh Sackett represented our class in football. ln basketball our class was represented by Ralph Strimel, Bob Garlow, Earl David Dill- inger, and lunior Iohnson. The class of l956 has always been well represented in all the organizations of our high school. They had members in the band, chorus, male quartet, ensemble, majorettes, cheerleaders, Che-Mon staff, FFA., Tri-Hi-Y, and the Varsity Club. Several members of this years lunior class were also in Student Congress. They were: Richard Blosser, Art Iarrett, and Bob Woods, Beverly Roberts and Bob Lockard were elected as the class presi- dents. One of their class activities this year was a play entitled: Ml-lero of Central l-lighf An- othe' activity was the lunior-Senior Prom, which was sponsored by the lunior class as usual. Both of these affairs were successful. This years Iunior class has proven to every' one that they will make a wonderful gradu- ating class next year. Row l tSittingl-S. Becrrdsley, I Mc Clain, N. OPHO ORES X: Happy Faces - Big Smiles - Good Times! Whether aiming for a higher scholastic standing or leading in sport activities, you'll always find the Sophomore class leading the way. Through the class of l957 is not excep- tionally large, everyone has realized that a good percentage of the class work together in all their social activities and in their every- day school life to maintain a better class. ln electing their officers, the Sophomore class has proven to everyone that they possess a good sense of judgment. Their officers for this year were: President4Bill Gabor, Ianice Fowler, Vice-President - Bob McLaughlin, Betty Pro- vance, Secretary - lanice Fowler, Mary Io Wolfe, TreasurereCarole Evans, David Millerg Senators f-- Meade LeFevre, Virginia Vance, Bonnie Nicholson, and Audrey Dunham, Many of the Sophomore class boys are valuable basketball players. There are sev- eral Sophomore boys on both the Varsity and Iunioi Varsity teams. Everyone who has seen them play know they can make a game excit- ing and give the opponents a rough time. Not only does the Sophomore class have its share of sport stars, but it also has Audrey Dunham, Carole Evans, and Emily Franken- berry as some of Point Marion High Schools pretty majorettes. At every sports event the Sophomore class is represented by Becky Hall and Adele Stentz who are cheerleaders. The band is also well represented by the class. Some of the most prominent members of the band are members of the Sophomore Class. No class is complete without some of its members belonging to the FFA. Here again the Sophomore class excels, The Sophomore class had its annual class party this year just as always. lt was a very successful event and everyone who attended had a nice time. This year's Sophomore class certainly has proven to everyone that they are more than capable of filling the place as next years Iun- ior class. They are looking forward with high hopes for next years adventures as Iuniors. Row l-M. Hager, C. Robinson, P Moser, B. Conley, G. Rohrer, B Beardsley. M. Bowers. G. Collett I. Bennett, How 2-O. Many of the Freshman boys are sports-minded, This class is well represented in sports. They had many members on both the football and basketball teams. lf we can judge from their performance this year, we can expect a very fine showing from them next football and basketball seasons. Cheering the teams on to victory at every game are the varsity cheerleaders. lt is not very often that a Freshman makes the grade and becomes a varsity cheerleader, this class has done just that, Marsha Bowers, one of the varsity cheerleaders, is a member of the Fresh- man class. This class is also active in the music depart- ment of Point Marion High School. Many of the band members are also members of the Freshman class. The chorus also has a fine share of Fresh- men in its ranks, The FFA. Club has the benefit of the talents of many of the boys in this class. Many of the girls belong to the Tri- Hi-Y Club. The Freshman class party was a huge suc- cess, This class did something no other Freshf man class has ever done before. They treated the entire school to a fine dance with a band, Much of the success for this years class activities belongs to the Freshman class offi- cers. They are: President-Betsy Beardsley, Gertrude Bohrerg Vice-President -- Marianne Porco, Warren Dick: Secretary - Billy Moats, Gloria Iohnsong Treasurer see Charles Black, Sarah Lee Decker, Senators - Bobert Belan, Donald Brady, Marsha Bowers, and Bob Brewer. They practiced very hard for their games under the direction of our coaches, and it payed off. Ray Phillis led the basketball team in scor- ing for the season, and Sam Rose was also a consistent scorer for the Orange and Black. Bay Phillis had 42l points for an average of l8.3 points per game and Sam Bose has 298 points for an average of l2.4 points per game VARSITY BASKETBALL SQUAD Row 1 fKneelingD-R. Phillis, S. Rose, B. The basket squad got off to a fast start, then hit a late season slump and finished the season with a final record of ten victories to fourteen losses. ln pre-league games the team looked very good and against Carmichaels recorded the highest number of points ever scored by a Point Marion High School basketball team in beating Carmichaels 9l-52. Mapletown and Masontown were defeated twice. The Pointers beating the Maples 64-5l and 67-45 while de- feating the Gunners 64-56 and 62-45 and losing a game to Masontown by a score of 52-47. The team will lose Sam Rose, Ray Phillis, Bob Moore, Herb Stewart, and Ray Daugherty by graduation. Coach Brownfield, assisted by Mr. Polink, will have Ralph Strimel, Allan Wittebort, and Bob Garlow back along with several very promising junior varsity players to torrn next year's team. BASKETBALL W... O.. Point Marion was very well represented in Iunior Varsity basketball this year. The squad was made up entirely of Freshmen and Sopho- mores and compiled a record of seven wins and thirteen losses. The lunior Varsity boys worked hard and several of these boys played in a few Varsity games. Ronnie Nicholson was the leading scorer for the luriior Varsity this year. Coach Paptick did a commendable coach- ing job with the lunior High School Team. The boys started the season with little or no experience and as the season progressed the team improved greatly. They defeatd Dunbar twice, All Saints, and gave several other schools a hard battle before losing. H up Mapletowri - - - California .,.. Carmichaels - - - Mapletown ,,..
