Go For The Gold Point Loma students began the football season with the famous Shoe Game against La Jolla High. Last year Point Loma walked away with the shoe, this year we re- turned it. New students got a free ride to the game and arrived to find everyone was dressed in maroon and gold. The cheerleaders brought the crowd to a new high with their cheers and spirit. The game was really exciting and I loved being peppy, remarked Cathy Dring. As the first half came to an end, people in the stands became aware that the shoe had been stolen. The cheer- leaders lead a chant to bring the shoe back, but the shoe was not found until four days later, buried in a sand pit. Though the game was lost, spirit was still sky high . On spirit alone we beat La Jolla ten times over, stated Lora Lindskoog. 1. Jenny Henderson shows she's got spirit. 2. Terry Walsh and Carla Wieseler cheer at the La Jolla game. 3. Point Loma's students, staff, and parents showed their spirit and support by participating in pep rallies, athletic games, and Spirit Week. Mr. Ouon, the new vice-principal, arrived with a lot of new ideas for the school. With his help, a giant PL was painted on the bleachers in maroon. He also introduced pep rallies Friday during lunch. They were very popular and helped to build spirit for all P.L. activ- ities. As the school year began, many new students came to Point Loma for the first time. Ms. Holman, the ESL counselor, worked out a program to have the return- ing Point Loma students show new ones around and to make them feel welcomed. The New Students Guides spent time getting to know their new students and showed them around campus. lt was really fun and it gave me a chance to meet some new people, commented Danielle Noe. Coach Huddleston helped the football team's spirit by painting a big football in the center of the field with Point Loma around it. lt added a nice touch to the ap- pearance of PL's field and I think it boosted the foot- ball players moraI, remarked Coach Hudd. 5 Nell Mills and David Stangland wait for winners to be announced. Heidi Turner and Marc Repaire enjoy new fruit drinks. Cowboy day was a blast! commented Deonne Kahler.
