EL PORTAL COOLS OFF AFTER A LONG SWEAT Layouts, photography, copy, developing prints, and paste-ups are all a part of producing a yearbook. This year the El Portal staff spent many dedicated hours of sometimes tedious work in order to meet our printer’s deadlines. New approaches and creative ideas were attempted by the staff in hopes of a well received book. Most of the members were new to the class this year but under the guidance of the advisor, Mr. Wallace, and editor, Kathie Landis, the staff | produced an excellent book. It was the staff’s hope that this year’s El Portal would capture the unforgettable thoughts and feelings of your high school years and preserve these life-long memories for many years to come. | 1. Autumn Band Review started a parade of activities for the band this year including three concerts at school, a concert tour in Los Angeles and three halftime shows during football games. Playing at open house and during an hour lunch were some of the highlights during the first year of a full jazz ensemble. There are eighteen talented students in the jazz ensemble this year. Eight students make up this year’s orchestra. Although the numbers are small the instrumentation is excellent. This year’s orchestra has also put together a community orchestra which anyone can get involved in. The music department had a great year thanks to Mr. Crick who directed all three groups. 30 Organizations
