'lhe Associated Student Body, the most important student organi- zation in Point Loma, highlighted the '36-'37 year with the A.S.B. dance at the House of Hospitality in Balboa Park. The school hopes that the dance will become a semi-annual affair. The ofhcers of the full semester passed on to their successors the job of amend- ing the school constitution. The A.S.B. desires to make it known that it is not 21 political friction, but a cabinet working for the good of the school. Ol'l ICl2RS I AI.l. SPRINLQ Gerald Lutes ....,. ..... , ,President ,...,. ENT RT EPA D RT Q A fb B ART DEPARTMENT Outstanding work in the field of decorative design has been completed by the art department this semester. Mrs. johnson's eleventh and twelfth grade classes have printed a mural for the library depicting the evolution of printing. Characters from great books comprise the motif for the new screen presented to the library by the same group. junior high classes designed panels for room 205 showing great periods of art. Miss Brodie's ninth and tenth grade classes have decorated their classroom. The arched windows suggested the Mexican-Spanish motif, which has been carried out in two murals, a four-panel decorative screen with designs from the Mayan calendar, a wall hanging, and rows of Cacti in hand-decorated pots for the window sills. An eighth grade class made a spray and stencil wall hanging with the Exposition as the theme. Of particular interest is the group of thirty etchings portraying Night designed by the annual art staff, under Mrs. johnson. ART CLUBS Point Loma boasts two art clubs: the senior high Art Club, organized some years ago for advanced students by Mrs. Ruby Grey johnson, and the recently organized Pointer Painters, who have Miss Willabee Brodie as advisor. The objective of both clubs is a better understanding and appreciation of art. Meetings of the Pointer Painters are held twice monthly. One is an afternoon meeting, usually a trip to see an exhibit, and the other is an evening meeting with illustrated lectures and a social hour. Interesting events this semester were a visit ot the studio of Maurice Braung a talk by Thyrsis Field, director of the Federal Art Project, a trip to the Art Gallery to see the Fifth National Ceramic Show. The advanced Art Club also meets twice a month. Its program for the semester has included illustrated lectures by well-known artists and decorators, visits to the Art Gallery, to the W. P. A. studios, to the Fine Arts Academy, and to State College, and numerous week-end sketching parties.
