Dedication We, the student body of Point Arena High School, dedicate the 1962 Foghorn to a man who was selected for his sense of humor, his popularity with the students, and his unique teaching ability. He has an eager interest in all student affairs and is always willing to chaperon them when asked. We give you-Mr. Ken Kurtz. The Principal’s Message Any community, organization, or county can only function effectively under a system of law and order. Schools must also insist on law and order. This system is set up through the school rules and the rules in the various classes. Schools have been established in this country to give you an oppor- tunity to obtain an education. The objectives of the school cannot be realized when young people are allowed to do anything and everything that they may want to do. Part of your education is learning to do things in the acceptable way. You cannot be permitted to interfere with the rights of others who may have a more mature attitude than you do and who realize the values to be ob- tained from study and cooperation in their classes. The school also has a responsibility to teach you manners, morals, and acceptable social behavior. Some of our students resent any restriction on their actions. This shows that they have an immature attitude which if permitted to continue will result in their actually becoming anti-social. If such license was permitted the school would not be performing its function of preparing you for acceptance in the adult life which you are rapidly approaching. Every effort is made to under- stand your problems, but civilized, socially acceptable behavior must be insisted upon. Instead of resenting the school's authority over you, you should be glad that there is a place where you can learn to live in such a manner as to become a worthwhile citizen and acceptable to your own generation os well as to your elders. 2
