One of the students takes time in the day to admire the many trophies that Poky has accumulated through the years. LLZ Sagoof During the football season, PHS mascot, Oske, helped to boost the spirit of the students, which helped in the winning of the Big Six Championship in football. In the girls' lounge, the project of the Girls' Council, all the girls of the school have a place to relax and to study. wa un .Specs . . . The first thing our class did was to elect our officers. The second outstanding act of the class of 58 was to win third prize in the homecoming float contest. That was an achievement for a freshman class to win over the sophomore class. Our class party was The Mad Hatter's Hop. Our class assembly was Lost Jiberace, starring Steve Anderson. We thought school was something our freshman year but our sophomore year was even better. We were deter- mined to do such big things this year. We didn't make the biggest accomplishments but we were the biggest, 600 in all. We again won third prize in the Poky Pow Wow parade. Our class party was Silver Bells. Our junior year was the year. We started out by planning our whole year's activities on the theme of Broad- way. Act one of our theme was our Solid Gold Cadillac float which won second prize in the homecoming parade. Act two was the class party entitled Auditions. Act three was the wonderful junior class assembly which presented the auditions for a Broadway show. Act four was our Jun- ior Prom. Opening Night was our theme. This Junior Prom was the greatest climax to a wonderful year. Each member of the class of 58 will always remember the hassle over our class rings which did not go along with the traditional design but had an lndianhead center. But, we were determined to be different and we are. Senior years are supposed to be outstanding in our minds and our senior year has been no exception. We started SANDRA JOHNSON Secretary off with a bang by winning first place with our white swan and gondola in the Red and Blue Day parade. Next our football team earned the Big Six Championship. Our Senior Ball was a memorable event. Our theme was Monte Carlo with the decorations as true to the real Monte Carlo as our industrious seniors could make them. After this our senior activities started to burst into full bloom. This year, for the first time, we had a Senior Recognition Day which was planned and put on by the seniors. Then the great Senior Sneak Day provided a marvelous and hilarious time for all, including the chaperons. And finally, gradua- tion brought to an end our great senior year. l can't be- lieve that this is it, was a common phrase uttered by tear- ful seniors. But, tears and sorrow gave way to happiness and laughter at the wonderful party given for the outstanding class of 58. We will never again experience how we felt, as we made our way through the halls as freshmen. But, we can remember how confused we were. As our first year pro- gressed, we built our first float. This float placed fourth, as a freshman float usually does, in the Poky Pow Wow Day parade. The next event of the year was our Class party named the Black Hat Ball. This was a tremendous success! That year we also presented our first assembly with many taking part. We made quite a bit of money on it, all of which consisted of pennies. Our sophomore year was even more of a success than our first. This year our class became larger as the Alameda CAMILLE JOHNSON Secretary students ioined us to make our class the biggest and best ever, We came up a notch that year as our class float took third place in the Red and Blue Day parade. Our class party, named Green Door, was a chance for us to have a little fun without the juniors and seniors bothering us, and we did, This ls Your Life was the theme of our class assembly that year. We didn't make as much money on it as on our first assembly but attributed this to the fact that it was a better assembly. As juniors, we have enjoyed the privileges of being middle classmen but look forward to our senior year, hop- ing it will bring as much happiness and success as our past. Although we were sophomores, the first day of school found us as green as any of the former freshmen were. Our first class party, held the last of November, was a huge success. Everyone joined in for the big Splash, and we went swimming at the I. S. C. gym. Afterwards, we danced and had refreshments. Red ond Blue Day proved to be one of the most unfor- getable days of the year. Our class float, which we thought was so huge and wonderful, seemed to be surprisingly small up against the other floats. But, after all the worry, JULENNE HILL Secretary we came through with flying colors by winning third place. We were very proud, and especially proud of our lovely princess, Sharon Kelly. During February, we started working on our Sopho- more Assembly. The script was written by Ralph Anderson and the theme was Rocking Through the Ages. The as- sembly truly showed what the sophomores can do when they work together. As our sophomore year draws to a close, we no longer feel confused and unsure of ourselves. With our newly gained confidence, we hope to be the best class in the history of Pocatello High School. BECKY MILLER Treasurer ? Neither has any Pocatellian come into existence without the cooperation, sac- rifices of time and labor and loyalty of the staff and the sponsors, Miss Helene McAlister, editor- ial advisor and Mrs. Amy Berrett, business ad- visor. My special gratitude goes to the section edi- tors who have organized and completed their parts, Kenny Kuhn, Carolyn Poore, Dixie Ramey, Sharon Bullock, Lyn Teuscher, Karen Dressen, Jean Sturdevant, Neil Parisot, Ruth DeKay, Mitzi Yamauchi, Margaret Dillon, Eleanor Pattis and Susan Herzog. To the copy editors, Louise Claycomb and Pat Jolley who have accomplished their jobs with ef- ficiency, l can only offer my thanks for your won- derful support. To those telling the story behind the scenes, the photographers, John Rumel, Richard Murri, John Hardy and Kip Power my thanks is hardly enough. Working with each staff member has been a rich experience. Sometimes we really thought we would never make the deadline, but even then, everyone did their best to meet it. John Rumel, our business manager, has done a wonderful job and has managed everything so that it was possible to put out another publication of the Pocatellian. There are always the ones who work behind the scenes. The ones no one seems to know about -the business staff. They have worked long 2 hours collecting ads so we would have more money for a better annual. We thank you, David Berrett, Kip Power, John Hardy, Richard Murri, Nancy Olson, Pat Sherburne and Maurice Smith. 4 The assistant editors of the class sections have had a heavy burden to carry and they have carried it well. They are Ruth Ann Tolman and Peggy Gambles. Our outstanding art work for the division pages and cover were done by Dixie Ramey, She did such a wonderful job that we were asked to release it for a nationally available cover, which every school could use. An acknowledgement of our indebtedness to Ashton Henderson, Swanson and Kennison Studios is far from complete for their fine cooper- ation and fine work. Champion's Camera Shop has done the finishing for our pictures and we thank you. Mountain States Bindery of Salt Lake City has done the excellent job on our cover with exact regard for our wishes and we thank them for the quality of their work. The people who have had the most to do with our annual, next to the staff, have been Gateway Printers. Mr. Milton England and all of his staff have helped us in many ways, we have no words to express our great gratitude to them. The sincerest hope of the staff is that each reader may find many eventful memories and that each page will truly help you to reflect back on time upon those wonderful years at Poky High School.
