The tall, lanky president played on the varsity basketball team as a sophomore, as well as taking an active part in German Club, Bernell was elected senator from the Junior class last year. Part of his knowledge of school government affairs was attained at Boys' State, where he served as U. S. Senator. I7

The group is composed of three senators elected from each class, the presidents of Girls' and Boys' Council, student body vice president, and the secretary of the student body. The major jobs of the senate are to write and revise laws, and to consider all house bills. I9
