Barbara Choffe, Joan Sorenson Mrs. lzetta Robertson The Chieftain has been published more frequently this year, one issue reaching the students every three weeks, a great change from the monthly issues of latter years. The editors and staff members have been turning out a better paper than ever before, striving with each issue to improve. This work of the students is shown as the Chieftain again won first rating in Columbia Scholastic Press Association's yearly school paper contest. For the reason that our school paper goes to each stu- dent ond into each home, the staff has tried to give o true impression of the school in all aspects--the serious and carefree, the busy and happy. Under the direction of the journalism adviser, Mrs. lzet- ta Robertson, o new plon was tried whereby two editors were appointed, one to serve each semester. Claire Mc- Quillan served as editor first semester and Joan Getty, second. Credit should be given to two students who've taken four semesters of journalism-Claudine Morris and Richard Hronek. The former has served os advertising manager for three semesters, the latter, as sports editor for three semesters, also. Sports Staff: Eugene Mullen, Vern Mitchell, Richard Hronek, Richard Black. The junior class lshmoos to you? were no different from the rest. On November 5, l948, the shmoos held their first annual Shmoo Hop in the Music Room. Here a welcoming committee greets the juniors. l22 Looking over the day's activities in senior home room are advisers, Mrs. Chute, Mr. Anderson, and Miss Hoffman. Under the guidance of these three, the class of '49 had an outstanding year. illear Be! Hear Be! The town crier, in this month of May in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty-nine, does bid the good people of this institution of knowledge to give ear to the various activities and doings of our now de- parting senior class. Know ye that the several achievements of this body were cap- ably directed by such luminaries as the class officers and advisers. Hearken now and for- Dear while the crier lives anew some moments of the pleasure did impart to the audience. And the Senior Ball, wherein much delight was afforded the gentlemen and ladies as they danced gayly with such an abundance of happy light-heartedness. And mark ye that this same class did adorn its members with rings at the beginning of the year. Let no listener forget the arduous moments and honest effort spent on the ora- tions which spoke of our great Constitution. And the hardtimes-who shall lose remem- brance of this festive event and the droll humors of its being? And most nostalgic of all, the glories and melancholies of gradua- tion? For few of us indeed can secure a foot- ing on the higher rung of the ladder without some sadness at the parting, without some thought of the warmth of many friendships, the sounds of many happy voices which may never again pass on our road. And so it is that this class, like your crier, must note that the hour is late and bid you good peo- ple, one and all, a cordial goodbye. I These four hard-working people were elected to lead the senior class during the year. They are Reed Jensen, president, Heber Hansen, vice-president, Leslie Dawson, secretary, and Arlene Burback.
