FOREWORD Closing this, our Senior year at beloved Pocahontas High School, we, the members of the class of ‘51, send this year book to the press with pride and love for it and those who will own its copies. We believe this book to be a symbol of our endeavorment and devotion that we, the class of ‘51, will leave behind us to live only in our memories. With the growing pain of sadness in thought of the graduation soon to come upon us, we sincerely hope that God will be with us and guide us as we leave these memorable walls to go out into the world of trials and tribulations to build our lives, our homes, and our eternity. CONTENTS Section | Section Ill THE ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES Section II Section IV CLASSES FEATURES Section V ADVERTISEMENTS With our coming departure from these beloved halls, we, the Senior Class of ‘51, dedicate this year book to both Mr. Carter and to the boys and girls who have left P. H. S. to serve in the United States Armed Forces. As a token of our deep appreciation for his undying efforts to better our school in every way, for his production of a champion girls’ basketball team; and for his help in making our annual possible; we affectionately dedicate the 1951 Tomahawk to Mr. R. T. Carter, Principal. Also, we, the Senior Class of ‘51, dedicate this, the 1951 Toma- hawk to the many soldiers in the Armed Forces who are paying the supreme sacrifice of giving their lives on the Korean battlefield that we, plus the millions of others like us, may enjoy our freedoms in these United States of America. My first customer was none other than Juanita Farmer. Not recognizing me in my Gypsy attire, she handed me a paper containing the names of all my classmates and myself. She asked me to tell her what each would be doing ten years from that day. Looking into my fifteen cent crystal ball, | actually saw, to my surprise: Lindy Carroll as the government teacher in the new Pocahontas High School, with Thomas Bailey as his star pupil. Cecil L. Gregory in the marine band. In- stead of playing the drum, he’s carrying it while another guy beats it. The “Flea” Theater, owner Ruth Wyatt, is now showing Dewey Jennings as the new Roy Rogers with James Carter as the new Gabby Hayes. Bobby Hendrick as an organ grinder and wait! that’s not a monkey that’s Charles Cox. Doesn’t he look cute in his little red hat? Nancy Saunders driving the Greyhound bus from Pocahontas to Boissevain. | hear music, it’s none other than Donald Hess and Barbara French singing on the Grand Old Opera. Three old maids Pearl Cheek, Phyllis Huff- man, and Edna Graham. Garland Bowman owns a garlic farm. In the field stands Eddie Adams. He certainly makes a nice scare crow. Window Washers are lla Jean Murray, Ruth Crewey and Flora Lee McCormick. The custodian of the new Pocahontas High Class Prophecy e School is John Griffith. The scrub women are Earleen Bowman, Irene Graham, Freda Potter, and Gracie Bostic Pickett. Is that an Indian? No. It’s James Levi dressed in a clown suit. Hazel Belcher and Mary Lee Gullion are driving school buses in North Carolina. Robert Cox and Jerry Luke are driving garbage trucks. Barbara and Mary Welch are raising flow- ers in Canada. Betty Sue Carter is selling pencils on the street corner. Billy Higginbotham and Lennis Tabor are sweeping streets, and John Davidson is loafing on the streets (with a tin cup). Doris Odham and Martha Perry are build- ing pig-pens in Florida. Eleanor Carter and Patty Patrick are stow- aways on a battleship. Two women running for President are Greta Draughn and Charlotte Ross. “Lion Tamers” are Betsy Sanderson and Orpha Welch. Sellers of Womens’ Hats are James O’Brien and Elwood Young. Mary Jo Hrametz and Margaret Johnson are teaching Norma Reynolds and Juanita Lail to box. “You've left some one out”, Juanita said. “What about Hazel Patterson and me?” You'll still be asking questions” and | added, remov- ing my false face, “I'll still be making up answers to them.” Hazel Patterson ’50-’51 e Senior We, the Senior Class. of 1951, in a sound and declaring state of mind, do declare this to be our last will and testament.
