Gee! It was really swell to see the pictures of the old gang and to think of them now as happy, busy people with all their dreams come true. While looking through the annual, who should come in but my old friend from early childhood, Nell Allen. Nell was happily married to Bill Weiser and the mother of twin daughters. Nell and I began talking like old friends do. She told me about a new beauty parlor which was opening on Third Street. Who were the owners other than the Shrader sisters, Mary Lee and Hazel. They had made quite a name for themselves as leading beauticians. Hazel Bostic, an old friend of theirs was also in business with them. Some of the others now were in business also. Pete Henly and Don Whitworth, after completing their course at Cincinnati School of Embalm- ing, had come back to the old town to practice. We turned on the radio and we immediately recognized Wally Rangeo as the announcer. The program for the night included piano solos by Martha Mitchell, Wanda Sluss, Betty Hrametz, and David Skewes. ‘The vocal solos were by Virginia Thomas and John Shuve. Wally reminded the listeners not to miss the next pro- gram which included John Kovacs, James Baker, Joe Griffith, and Don Wolfe. We decided to go to a movie that night. Imagine our surprise when Randall Matson appeared on the screen as “The Whistler”!!! The picture was directed by Bill Wall and produced by Billie Gullion. An exciting western was also on, starring Mickey Jones in “Jesse James Returns’. We went to a nice cafe after the movie to get a sandwich. Whom should we see but Kat Sutherland. She and her husband were proud owners of the place. Each night two famous dancers appear. ‘That night two of our old classmates were to appear. Thev were none other than Joyce Wagner and Bill Levay. After the show we talked to Joyce and Bill. Joyce said Bessie Grifhth was now an English teacher at old Poca. High. Edna Bowling, Joan Jennings, and Mary Ellen Mullin were also teaching in leading high schools. Grace Harald and Hazel Hylton had remained together and were new coaches of the very successful girls’ basketball team at Poca Bill interrpted long enough to sav Frank Mullin and Eugene French had also trained to be basketball ccaches. but did not know where they were now coaching. We talked a long time and then bade Joyce and Bill good-bye. The next dav Nell and I went to pay our family insurance. Rudy Kaba was now president of the firm and Margaret Satmary was his associate. While there Rudy teok us to a very large rocm where a group of girls were busy working. We recognized among the group Carolyn Sayko, Dorcas Hale, Peggy Gentry. Ruth Perry, Joyce Arrington. and Bettv Franklin, all old schoolmates of ours. We learned from them that Nick Lotito, Alfred Lively, and Bill Thompson were leading doctors in the new Parkway Hospital in Pocahontas. The nurses’ staff was noted for its ex- cellence and helvfulness. Janice Wright was the superintendent of nurses and under her were Hope Hurst, Virginia Lee Billips, Ruby Lively, and Ann Stoker. Priscilla Hudson had gone to Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke to work in the lab. On our way home. Hal Butt stopped in his famous car from high school days and offered to drive us home. Hal was now one of our neighbors. We could hardly wait to tell Dan and Bill of our day’s adventure and learning about our old classmates of '47. Crepa Mason, Prophet.
