.III Illli MASS HAY When Ruth Sherwood Susan Reynolds and Her Sister Eileen Joann Wainwright arrived in New York to seek their respective fortunes as an actress and a writer, they were tricked into leasing a basement apart ment in Grenwich Village with more disadvantages than advantages Eileen being a very appealing if not too bright young woman at tracted the attention of such characters as Mr Appopolous their artis tically 'P minded landlord Dick Mell Frank Lippincott a soda Jerk Melvin Johnson and Chick Clark a newspaper man Don DePew Among their troubles were a subway crew that keptblasting a tunnel under their floor two drunks fD1ck Walters and John Kodras who chatted with them through their dormer window the Wreck Jim Craig an ex football player who was forced to move in with the girls when his wife Mavis Johnson Helen s mother Margaret Anderson came to visit Lonmgan a cross cop flviarven Seehusen two street urchins Doris McClurg and Don Cundiff ' Jensen a wandering handyman Dean Johnson - and a prospective tenant Beulah Anderson Interesting if hectic situations arose when the former tenant Violet Janet Plantz a burlesque queen received a caller John Kodras Ruth brings home five members of the Portuguese Navy fBill Ohrtman Dick Mell Dick Walters, Jerry Slayton and Melvin Johnson who are arrested with Eileen when they do the 'Conga' through the apartment and the streets The next day everything clears up, but only after Walter Sherwood Ronald Foege the girls father arrives the Brazilian Council Arnold Lubinus brings Eileen home from jail, and Ruth lands a job through Robert Baker Basil Monkelien , 16
