arching Colonials Mwmwm w mam l Nam coL Midis 9; ' :2 4i PLYMOUTH MEETING. PA- , The 1970-71 marching season was the best ever for the Marching Colonials as they came home victorious as many times as they went out hopeful. In all, they col- lected 15 first places, four second places, three third places and one fourth place which is one of, if not the best, records of any band in Pennsylvania. During the winter months, the individual units were busy on their own. The Color Guard and Majorettes competed in several indoor competitions bringing back awards each time. At the band-sponsored Drill Compe- tition, held in February, the band introduced a new concept for marching bands as they performed inside on the basketball court. Mr. Ron Holly then began to prepare the musicians for their annual Spring Concert which was held in April. Assisting Mr. Holly during the fall was Mr. James Powell, Mr. Edward Stimson, who directed the Color Guard, and Mrs. Janice Smith, who led the Majorettes. This year there was a total of 135 students on the field, 80 band members, 40 Color Guard, and 15 Majorettes. The hard work and long hours which everyone put in were well worth it this year, and if this is only the begin- ning, the band will bring more honor to P-W in years to come.

The efforts of the 1970 Colonial Football team resul ed in a successful 6-4 season. The Colonials opened the season with a non-lea game against Central Bucks East which P-W won 48-1 Against Cheltenham and Springfield, the Colonial d fense, due to the hot weather and the hot oppositio just couldn,t jell. They fell to the Springfield Sparta 41-12, and lost to Cheltenham in addition to losi Steve Schwartz to a broken collarbone. The following week, the P-W squad bounced ba into shape by beating Norristown 48-14, and followi that came the defeat of Methacton, 20-6. Both gam showed a great team effort which was headed by h- back Mark Falzone. At Homecoming, Upper Merion was the team to be in order to possibly place second in the league. Howev the tough Upper Merion offense out-scored the Col nials during the first half, and despite the very clo score, we were not able to match them, and lost 36-30. The highlight of the season was the win over Abin ton, 36-3. It was a fine exhibition of a football tea working as a unit. This was the first time that the P- football squad defeated the Abington Ghosts .
