rwmaww Exchange Students For thousands of years men have been using words, written or spoken, as the best way to communicate and to tell each other about their opinions and feel- ings. Nevertheless, this important tool of ours either fails or just wonit work when the things we want to say come from somewhere in the bottom of our hearts. I am in this position now. Even if I tried to say how I feel in Portuguese I wouldnit be able to do it! Its hard to tell you precisely how good it was to play on the soccer team, how much fun it was to listen to Ed Shertzls Italian jokes, how hard it was to wash test tubes after school with Dave Miller, how embarass- ing it was when Rick Volpe asked me to go up on the stage during the first assembly that we had . . . I will never forget these things as well as I wonit forget the help that I got from all my teachers. Thank you so much P-W! Cleber The most exciting year of my life is almost over. Now when I look back at my year here I can say that I have learned to know this area where I have lived and these people with which I have lived very well. My present opinions of this society are no more based on wishful thinking or imagination but on my own expe- riences of this school and these people. Not only my attitudes and opinions toward certain questions have changed, but I myself am different from that Jaakko who came here a year ago. I have learned a lot since I came here. I know now much more about people and especially about myself. Now I will be much more ready to live my life in my own country because I now have something to compare it with. I have seen that Finland is not the only good place to live and that the Finnish people are not the best people in every respect. The people of this place have made my year here such as it has been - a great, pleasant, useful experi- ence. I am sure that it has not always been so easy to help me but because you did it I now have a good rea- son to be very grateful to these good people who gave me this unforgetable year.
