Plymouth State College is set in the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire. On clear day's, it seems you can see forever. A lot of changes occur in Plymouth throughout the year. In the fall, the folliage presents an array of brilliant color's. The students arrive at their home away from home, to begin a nw semester at PSC. Winter brings snow, iced slide walks, and cold weather; no to mention the finals. Then comes SPRING!! With the sun- ny day's and trips to Livermore for the beginning of great tan's! Finally, for all the Seniors, after working so ar-guous . . . GRADUATION!!! Then the cycle begins once more, as we, the students of PSC, return to the town of Plymouth. With our rested minds, and articulate creavity, we are ready to begin the fall semester. a 5 STRICKLEY NEW HAMPSHIRE! 6 7 ..m-. y I When a student arrives at PSC as a freshman, the changes that this student will inhibit are far from the slightest imagination. For many students this is the first time away from home. Choices had to be made. To study, to party: weeknights or weekends, to pledge Gree-kage, to join clubs or participate in sports. There are also living changes from year to year. Whether a student stay's on- face as they enter their college career. There are also living changes from year to year. Whether a student stay's on-campus or off-campus, dorm-life or student apartment-life. These changes may sound trivial to most, but they can be extremely crucial dilemma's to some students. We made many decisions that will affect our lives. From senate elections to skipping classes, the choice is up to YOU! Endeavors will always change, whether we think that the change is good or not. We re going to get older, wiser, and more pessimistic on the world, however, during those “gluts, we will always remember the time we have spent at PSC whether it was the best of times or the worst of times. 'Year's down the road, we will open our yearbook, and sec all of our friends and professor's that guided us student's down the road of wisdom. And now we can look back and see the changes of PSC and smile. TITLE! Big Win Over N.H.C.! The 1987 P.S.C Panthers had one of their best seasons, with a 10 game winning streak ending the season with a 10-1 record. The Panthers won their 7th straight Hew England Conference title and the first ever E.C.A.C. north Championship title after defeating Ithaca State 13-12 in a hew York blizzard. The Panthers were led by Head Coach Lou Deslogesand the teams Co-captains: Mike Elithirpe, Leo Cooney, Eric Shirley, and Paul Sheehan. Matt Jozokos took over as qua terback of the Panthers and picked up the E.C.A.C. Rookie of the Year Award. The Offensive M.V.P. Award went to senior co-captain Paul Sheehan. The Qreenwall Defense had an awesome year allowing only and average of 6.2 points per game through 11 contests, leaving them first in scoring defense in the nation. The Defensive M.V.P. Award went to senior co-captain, Mike Elithorpe. On the whole. Sweeney, D, Zisk, A, Robinson, Coach: Dot Diehl. 46 STICKWOMEN RANKED IN TOP 10 Good Passing Year The 1987 Stickwomen, led by tricaptains Laura Casey, Nikki Pilava-kis, and Darla Zisk, were ranked among the top ten teams in the New England Division III poll at the beginning of the season. One credit to their success is the fact they are a good passing team. The Stickwomen's victory over Middlebury College with the score of 2-1 was Head Coach Dot Diehl's 100th victory during her PSC field hockey coaching career. The teammates presented with a reward of victory and congratulations after the game. For a second year in a row, the Panther Stickwomen hosted the EC AC Division III Field Hockey playoffs. The Panther's completed their season ranked sixth among the New England teams. 47 MEM FLAY TOUGH UMDER STRESS TRY FOR 19TH STRAIGHT Seven starters return this 1987 season in search of the 19th straight winning season under Head Coach Qud Lutter. The season opened with a victory score of 2-1 against north Adams State. The men booters are not afraid to play tough under great stress and pressure The Panthers were currently ranked in the top ten in hew England. The young members of the team began to fit into the unit, quickly becoming accustomed to the Plymouth Style of play. P.S.C. has also been known for its outstanding defense with this year being no exception. The 1987 Soccer Homecoming M.V.P. Award was presented to senior Bruce Hawkins. Hawkins had a record of 5 goals and 4 assists by this time in the season. Despite being ranked number four amoung Hew England teams, at Homecoming, P.S.C. has a good chance of playing the playoffs for their fifth year in a row. WOMEN WORKED TOGETHER EARLY HIGH PERFORMANCE Although the women s soccer team had many young team members this season, they came together to work as a team early in the season. They showed improvement with each game played. At the beginning of the season, senior captain, Kelly Qreely was confident that the team was starting to come together and work with each teammates abilities. Head coach Phil Rowe felt that although the booters had numerous games they were able to maintain their high quality of performance. During the season the booters achieved a team game winning streak. The team has not only proven to be one of the best teams in Hew England, but also one of the best teams in the country at the Division III level. For the second year in a row the booters played in the HCAA playoffs. Though they lost the game, the game was well played. 51 HOOPSTERS PLAY TOUGHEST SCHEDULE AVERAGE GAME 86.6 The P.S.C. Moopsters opened their season Nov. 24th against New England College starting one of their toughest schedules. The 1987 Moopsters were led by coach Phil Rowe and Co-captains Ryle Hods-don and Brian Pickering. Tim Mucher averaged 15 points per game and Jay Osgood was their top rebounder. The were eliminated from the E.C.A.C. playoffs by Rhode Island College, with a record of 14-12, ending their season. Overall they had a good season, averaging 86.6 points per game, alloeing only 83.1 tallies and they came in second nationally with over seven three pointers per game 2 m‘‘ Mi m s I'.isketball Team: K. COOKE ALL-LEC The P.S.C. Womens Basketball team was led by Head Coach Susan Rowe and co-captains Casey Todd and Haney MacCallum. The women hoopsters earned one of their biggest wins early in the season against R.I.C. They went on to have a record of 7-18 overall and 2-8 in the Little East Conference. Patti Therien and Deb Pord were amoung the L.E.C. leaders in free-throw percentage all season and Tracey Cooke was named to the AII-L.E.C. second team by the conference coaches. TOP 20 FINISH The P.S.C. Ski Teams, coached by Stu and Kim Bownes, 'had some great ski racing talent on their teams this year. Captain Jan-ine Bea provided valuable leadership for the P.S.C. womens team. Cindy Steele was 1988 Eastern Regional Combined Champion, giving the women 2nd place at the Re-gionals. The captain of the mens team, Geoff Hamilton, was 1988 Eastern Regional Combined Chammpion, giving the men 1st place at the Regionals. Quimby was very pleased with the performances of his swimmers. The womens swim team officially began their third season on October 15. Although they lost several of their first rate swimmers from last years team this was a season to rebuild. Sue Sileby, Jen Duffy, Lisa Mayni-han, and Nancy Acorace made up the relay team and Patti broke her own school record in the 500 freestyle. Although the team had a record of only 2-7, Coach Quimby was very encoouraged by their progress. Coach: D, Webster. 68 MEM STARTED OUT OPTIMISTIC CHAPUT GAVE MEM BOOST The P.S.C. PucKsters were coached by Dave Webster with Andy Hebert, Ron Miner, and Dan Griffith as Tri-captains. The puck sters season started out very optimistically. freshman transfer goaal keeper. John Carrate proved to be a welcome addition to the team. Late in the season Steve Chaput returned to the active P.S.C. rooster, giving the Panthers a great boost. Kevin Craig and John Car-rate were twice named E.C.A.C. player of the week during January. The pucksters lost to S.M.U. in E.C.A.C. Player action giving the team a record of 13-10 69 ROAD WARRIORS! COACH ROOKIE OF YEAR The Road Warriors” as the 1987 Wrestling Team was known during their first semester of meets were coached by Gary Holden. Their Cocaptains were Steve Vespa and Randy Cleary. The Road Warriors” Didn't have a home meet until January 20th. Coach Holden was named Rookie Coach of the Year by the Hew England College Wrestling Association, the team finished eighth at the Hew England Division III Wrestling Tournament held at Worcester Polytechnical Institute. Mrs. Blake retired in 1988 after 25 years of service to Plymouth State College. When Mrs. Blake first came to P.S.C. she was the college s receptionist, mail clerk, telephone operator and faculty secretary. After a few years she left and returned as the secretary to the Director of Admissions. In 1974 she moved to the college president's office, as his secretary, where she stayed for 14 years, serving 4 president s. Mrs. Blake, originally from Massachusetts, moved to Plymouth in the early 50's. Active in community as well as church activities. Mrs. Blake was instrumential in the community Santa Clause program. Over the years Mrs. Blake was know for her willingness to help people. She was always ready to give an extra hand. Know at P.S.C. as a mother hen' who would refer to some students, faculty and staff as her chicks'. Mrs. Blake will be greatly missed at Plymouth State College but will always be remembered for her love and dedication she gave us all. Editor's Mote As I sit back and finish the last page of the yearbook I hope it was all worth it. The days of endless pages and copy never seemed that way.
