‘the college has become more diversified, students at Plymouth state used to be more directed towards career in education when i came to Plymouth in 1968 there were only four faculty in the ort department, and our facilities were in rounds hall, it seemed we were always fitting into other peoples spaces, at the time, there were no four-year programs for art students, the biggest change has been the growth, the art faculty is now much larger, there are more students in art. and there are two different four-year programs with a third on the way. 'the students have always had vitality, there is a core of interested students, full of creative energy, we have a very fine art department and the students can generally find something here. ‘i really feel that Plymouth has a lot of possibilities for students to take hold and get a good education. ... it was a difficult decision for me to make — whther or not to retire, but i intend to paint more and take a active part in the community, i would also like to to some traveling and visit some of my family.' i don't feel i'm an accomplished artist yet. and i'd like to work on that. mary taylor professor of art 14

dr. james hogan — a great inspiration the senior class of 1980 is proud to dedicate the conning tower yearbook of 1980 to dr james j. hogan, a teacher who has been a great inspiration to each and every one of us. dr. hogan has taught for 32 years, 27 of which have been at Plymouth state he has seen many changes take place here and has watched the college grow from a small educational institution to a larger college which offers many new fields of study dr. hogan has given countless hours for 25 years with the model general assembly of the united nations, one of the oldest such simulations in the world. as an extremely competent historian, dr. hogan has stressed a strong belief in international education, educationally, he has constantly expressed the basic philosophy in the making of a completely well-rounded student; that is, the student should be concerned with academic, athletic, cultural and social pursuits, he believes psc can and does offer these advantages. dr. hogan has always been considered a dynamic. 'forceful ond sincere educator, a teacher who made it a point to know all his students on a personal basis, his enthusiasm made the subject matter alive and was contagious, he was concerned with people a favorite expression of his was, history is not dead, it is alive.” dr hogan fulfilled this concept with his colorful and animated teaching in all his classes. — history was alive! the class of 1980 thank dr. hogan for the many contributions he has made for us and for Plymouth state college, it has been truly an honor to have among us a teacher who has given so much of himself.
