1st Varsity Team A Success 1978 WOMEN’S SOCCER PSC 4 Castlcton State 3 PSC 0 Lyndon State 2 PSC 1 Bowdoin 0 PSC 0 Dartmouth 2 PSC 1 Vermont 2 PSC 4 Keene 1 PSC 0 Brown 1 FINAL RECORD Won 3 Lost 4 Tied 0 Women's soccer is making great strides throughout the country, and the women's team at PSC is no exception. Last year, in their first year as a varsity team, the women hooters came away with a fine 3-4 record that was in no way indicative of the way they played. . Twice, the Lady Panthers lost by a single goal in overtime, once to UVM and once to powerful Brown University. Tisa Kenney did a superb job in the goal as she kept the panthers close in all of their games. Despite the facl that only two of the women had played soccer before coming to Plymouth, the team showed a great deal of improvement during the season. They will soon establish themselves as a power to be reckoned with in soccer. 16

Cross Country Team P.S.C.’S outstanding cross country team enjoyed another successful year in 1978. The team, tri-captained by Mike Clark. Jim Clark and Russ Cutting saw strong contributions from Dave Bullrick, Art Demers. Rick and Ron Fullerton. Kenn Parker. Bill Ciookrich. Randy Miller, Dave DeSilva and Bruce Piispanan as well as all three captains. The future looks good for continuing P.S.C. brilliance in Cross Country as many members will be returning next year. Rick Fullerton was named “Most Improved in 1978, moving from twelfth place to sixth in the line-up. Rookie of the Year honors went to freshman Art Demers. Coach Rick Hutchins has much to be proud of in his first year of leading the cross country team. 18 The 1978 season was high-lighted by the superb running of senior Jim Clark, who closed out one of the most successful running careers in P.S.C. history. Jim represented Plymouth well during his four years, winning many races, including two first place finishes in the prestigious Plymouth Invitational, and twice being selected P.S.C. athlete of the week. This season Jim broke several course records and was selected as the first recipient of the John C. Foley Crosscountry award.
