President H«rold E. Hyde President’s Message As the Class of 1965 goes from Plymouth into teaching, further study, homemaking, or other pursuits, they enter a world torn with tensions and strife and leave an academic atmosphere which may never again exist at Plymouth. Our graduates may be persons of importance as our country and the world combat ignorance, poverty, totalitarianism, prejudice, disease, denial of human rights, immorality, juvenile and adult delinquency, and other besetting problems. Some will work with the Peace Corps and similar organizations in trying to help emerging nations to realize a better standard of living. Some will work with the poor, the jobless, the handicapped, the discriminated against whose presence shows our need to accomplish much before we realize a dream of a Great Society.” Whatever their sphere of influence may be, the lessons learned both in and out of class at Plymouth, will forever shape their lives. Plymouth has had a long history of faculty, student body, and administration working together with one central aim — to produce the best teachers we knew how. As we assume functions beyond the production of public school teachers and as we increase in size, may we still try to retain many of the things for which the friendly college’ has been famous. These include a real pride in the institution, a high respect for students as individuals and a joy in teaching them, a willingness to discuss and solve problems together, and a high regard for development of many facets ol the student’s personality. 17 Harold E.
