To make this Year Book as fine a record as pos- sible, we have endeavored to catch the spirit of the classroom, the enthusiasm of athletics and the musi- cal and social interests of not only the senior class, but the entire school. In this book are presented pictures of student life on the campus and in school. We have not tried to make this book elaborate, but ust a simple presentati- n of facts. It is our sin- cere desire that this Year Book will continue to up- hold the traditions .5 ' E ,mouth Higl School. He died at the close of his sophomore year, in the summer of nineteen thirty-seven. His constant cheerfulness and everlasting smile won him a host of friends. He stood high in the estimation of the teachers as well as his fellow classmates. Berton will long be remembered by those who knew him. A poem composed by Berton in English class was written as a grim foreshadowing or a premonition of the future, for the following summer he died. As a tribute and memoriam to this departed friend, we publish his poem, 'AI VVondcr. l WlJHllf?I Oh, I wonder, yes, I wonder, When I go away up yonder, Will the angels do my Caesar for me 'Cause I'm tired and I'm sick, Of that guy I'd like to kick, Will the angels do my Caesar for me Oh, I wonder, yes, I wonder, When I go away up yonder, Will the angels do my Math for me? 'Cause it's minus and it's plus, Gee, it makes my ol' hean rust, Will the angels do my Math for me? Oh, I wonder, yes, I wonder, When I go away up yonder, Will the angels do my work for me? 'Cause I 'm lazy and I'm weary, And I'm tired and I'm dreary, Will the angels do my work for me? L U .J .lllma Mater' Plymouth High School, hear our praise, Our voices load and strong, Unto thee we' gladly raise In the melody of song. May we give to her the best, Which is due from you and me, And held sacred hy the rest On mountain, land and sea. On to glory, Plymouth High, To the famous heights let's climhj Let our colors proudly fly Through the endless days of time. Our school ties shall never hreak, Though we're scattered far and near We're loyal still for loyalty's sake To our Alma Mater dear. CHORUS Plymouth High! Oh, the valor of Plymouth High! Shout! Shout! Shout! For the colors we let fly, Red and Black! For these we'll always hght. May the students of our school Prove its might. I., Page Thirty-three Copliomoro Class The present Sophomore Class. composed of 304 students, found upon their arrival to the senior high school new fields open to them. Proving their capability in adapting themselves to new sur' roundings. they proceeded to elect the following class oliicers: Leo Dudek, president, Helen Kanora, vice-presidentg Dorothy Pokrinchak. secretary, Robert Parry, treasurer. The oliiicers, assisted by the class sponsors, began their year's activi- ties with much interest. Many of their members participated in the annual minstrel and school play, and various school organizations. From all indications the future of the Sophomore Class will be one of overwhelming success. .luoior Class After two successful years in high school, the juniors accepted the responsibilities with which they were confronted. As their Hrst undertaking they chose as their leaders: Harry Pryslak, presidentg Mary Davis, vice- presidentg Edith Croop, secretary, Edward Narcum, treasurer. The Iuniors proved themselves interested participants in the many social and curricu- lar activities. The musical organizations and various clubs were composed largely of members of class of 1940. For the success of the junior dance, much credit is due the class sponsors, under whose careful guid- ance it was conducted. The keen interest taken in all undertak- ings promises success to the future senior class. T Froslnnao Class Deeply interested in high school affairs, the Freshman Class launched into an active high school program. From a list of capable candidates for class ofiicers, Edgar Hughes was chosen presidentg Ioyce Griffith, vice-president: Vincent Ragunas, secretary-treasurer, and Thomas liean, usher. The music and dramatic departments, under the capable supervision of Miss Edith Cosslet and Miss Miltona Bolen, respectively, presented many delightful programs. The Hpretzel hop was one of the outstanding social successes of the year. The earncstness with which all respon- sibilities were accepted, indicates a bright future for the class of 542. Organizing soon after school resumed, the Hi-Y Club initiated new members and embarked on the pro- gram which had been arranged for the year. The first activity of the year was a joint Hallowe'en party with the Girl Reserves. A mrofuriate decorations and soft music PI- i I blended to make this affair a hu TC success. in To protect the clothing and also to preserve order in the halls, the Hi-Y posted members to act as clerks in the boys' locker room. Establishing a precedent, the club had programs printed for the Plymouth-Nanticoke Thanksgiving Day football game. These programs were distributed at the game to help elucidate the spectators. Immediately after the football season was finished, the Hi-Y Club started the yearly basketball tournament, with the members of the club participating. The pur- pose of the league was to give those not on the school team a chance to play basketball and also to provide an opportunity for some of the members to learn how to play the game. Besides the competition between the members of the club, other Wyoming Valley Hi-Y Clubs were played, and the Plymouth club rated favorably with the out-of-town squads. The Hi-Y semi-formal dance was held during the Christmas holidays, with the music being provided by Ralph Paul's orchestra. This event was well attended, both by former and present Hi-Y members. At different meetings 'in the year speakers were pro- vided to give the boys information on various subjects. Among the speakers were Mr. Iames Thomas, a former Hi-Y member, Mr. Robinson, a state Hi-Y executive, and Professor A. VV. Harman, principal of the high school. Prlgr' Ff1rf,i'ffn1Jf HLY During the month of February, the Hi-Y Club presented a chapel pro- gram commemorating the birthday of George Wasliington. Later in the month the annual banquet was held, at which Professor Henry Iones was the principal speaker. Professor Harman. Mr. Iames. Mr. Bromin- ski, and Mr. Sterniuk were the guests at the banquet. The final event of the year was the spring picnic, which was initiated in 1938, and will continue to be a permanent feature. Sports and re- freshments contributed towards mak- ing this a thoroughly enjoyable af- W. fair. VV1'11fic'!d Plzlclifcs Omtlon llasliiers Club lt is a generally accepted fact that thrift should be taught to the young people of America at an early age. With this intention, Plymouth High School has organized a Cashiers Club, which is designed to encourage and teach the value of saving. This club is composed of two represen- tatives from each roll call room, who are elected for their reliability and accuracy in figures. Each Tuesday morning the cashier is charged with the responsibility of accommodating those who wish to deposit money in the school savings bank. This year, as in previous years, the students, passbooks were long folding cards providing for a limited amount of money. VVhen all those who wished to bank were ac- commodated, the cashier put their passbooks into a large envelope on which he marked the date, the number present in his roll call room that day, the number of depositors, the percentage, and amount of money. The money, very carefully counted, is placed in a separate envelope on which the inside amount is marked. This smaller envelope is placed Within a large one and taken to the library, where Miss Tisdel, who diligently supervises the club, sends it to the bank. As officers of this club, the following people were chosen for the term: President, Ioseph VVascalusg vice- president, Edward Narcumg secretary, Edward Orzel. Fira Squad If you ever hear a bell at an irregular time, followed by a shuffling of feet, you will know another important Fire drill is in progress. You will notice that a group, composed largely of lettermen and the two janitors, will take posts throughout the building, insuring your safety. Fumliall tiflllfifl VVith the best season enjoyed in many years behind them, the Plymouth 1938 football squad passes into history. The Red and Black warriors finished second in the Conference, losing only to Coughlin, who finished first. Plymouth started with a win over New- port, closely followed by a 20-o triumph at Edwardsville. After the loss to Cough- lin, Plymouth again trod the victory trail, with victories over Plains, Kingston and Meyers. These victories were accom- panied by a win over G. A. R., a mud- splashed rout of Berwick and a hard- fought win over Larksville. Un a frozen field, Plymouth and Nanticoke battled a scoreless deadlock in the last game of a successful season. Unfortunately, this squad loses many of its gridders through graduation. Among them are Bill Harry, honor- ary captaing Paul Iones, Bill Murray, George Kulick, Iames Roberts, Arnold Cooper, Pete Koval, Edward Karwoski, lack Piscotty, Maynard Stravinski, Edward Oriel, Orest Alex, Al Yanovitch, Martin Woodeslxick, Frank Skulski, Edmund Keris, lack Ayers, Iohn Mergo and Hayden Ienkins.
