Zgauakeihall The Plymouth High School Blackhawks of 1949 proved themselves worthy of wearing the same suits as last year's ever powerful Hawks This year's team survived the season with a nineteen and five record. Coach Schnake had five men from the team which last year won twenty-two and lost four. These men were: F. Stockwell, a veteran guard who handled the ball in the back-courtg D. Aleshire, who had a lot of trouble the first of last season and was out of the playing much of the year, but made up for this by scoring 418 points this season 5 K. Hays, who played running mate to R. Ale- shire in the forward slot last yearg H. Rash and R. Sargent moved up from the second five to complete the first five of this year's team. Coming up from the second team to become the reserves were: D. Miller, who proved he had what it took when Hays was out for two games with a bad shoulder 9 J. Hitz, J. Stoneking, D. Boos and L. Lovell. Lovell decided to become mana- ger. Jim Rankin moved in from Cuba, Illinois in December and became eli- gible in January. The five games the Blackhawks lost were to Dallas City, Parochial of Nauvoo, Augusta, Hamilton, and again to Parochial. The Hawks were beaten for the first time by Dallas City in a very close game by a score of 59-54. Blackhawks were one point when R. Sargent and D. Aleshire were lost on personals. Dallas City took advantage of Plymouth's frantic press and hit the hoop for two more baskets. Parochial of Nauvoo beat the Hawks nine points in the Blind Tournament. Parochial's 6' 4 center was a little too much for them. In the County Tourney, Augusta beat our team in a close one 21-20. Next Hamilton came to Plymouth and handed them their first home game defeat in two seasons by a score of 59-50. This game, like the Dallas game, was lost on personal fouls. In the Regional at Carthage, Parochial slaughtered the Blackhawks. This was also caused par- tially by personals.
