1-Inmenmking Education for home and family life is in harmony with modern educa- tional principles in that it endeavors to provide for effective adjustment to the great social and economical changes which have been felt and must be provided for in every social group. Home economics is valuable as it contributes to attaining the large ob- jectives through Which education may be realized. Its special contributions will come in working out wholesome, satisfying personal and social relation- ships, and in utilizing the resources of the individual and the family in pro- viding means for the satisfaction of needs, development of interests, and use of capacities in attaining the values set up as most worthwhile. iinglisah The three-fold purpose of our English department is to aid each pupil to acquire an appreciation for good literature, to develop reading ability, and to gain skill in written expression. Reading good literature tends to contribute a sense of sound values in developing a pupil's outlook on life. This is clear whens we remember that a great body of the accumulated wisdom and comznon sense of the race is con- tained in literature. Reading and writing ability can be acquired only through actual practice, serious use of the dictionary, and careful checking. In our English classes we have devoted sincere effort toward these ends knowing that as we educate individuals so we educate society. mathvmatirz . During the current year, the mathematics department offered the follow- ing courses: Algebra I., Plane Geometry, Advanced Algebra Cone semesterj, Solid Geometry Cone semesterl, and Practical Mathematics. Few of us realize how often we really come in contact with mathematics, in the store, the home, the office. Daily our lives touch the field of mathe- matics. The courses in this department offered in the first two years, teach a student to handle numbers, to think in the abstract, to reason logically, and to give him a foundation for higher mathematics as found in the advanced courses in high schools and in colleges. Without mathematics as found in our high school, there would be little progress, such as is shown by the radio and by great structures like the Empire State Building.
