Arhieuementa --- 1545 It is a pleasure to the Senior Class to list in this annual some of the out- standing achievements of various students enrolled this year. Eleanor Simmons, received highest scholastic honors for her four year's work and is therefore the valedictorian of the class. Mary Jane Hendricks was second high and thus became the salutatorian. Because of her outstanding traits of character, Donna Dowacter was se- lected by the senior class and faculty to receive the D.A.R. good citizenship award for 1949. In the Held of sports, Don Aleshire was chosen on the all-star Lamoine Valley Conference basketball team in the position of forward. Forrest Stockwell. guard, and Kenny Hays, forward, were placed on the honorable mention list for the same honor. Bonnie Jean Alexander's essay on Why Conservation Should Be Taught In Our Public Schools was selected from among 8000 entries as one of the six best in the state. This was a project carried on in the English 3 class under the direction of Mrs. Scott. Bonnie Jean was rewarded for her achieve- ment by a three day expense free trip to Chicago as a guest of the State Conservation Department. Pat Downing and Pat McCutchan were among thirty-three contestants who were given honorable mentions for the same work. In the district music contest for ensembles and solos at Quincy the music department received five group 1 ratings which are: Piano solos, Mary Jane Hendricks, Anna Mae N ormanding Saxophone quartet, Bonnie J. Alexander, Joan Aleshire, Avis Jean McCutchan, Esther Rampleyg Trumpettrio, Ross Sargent, John Leedom, Darrell Boosg Bass horn, Kenny Hays. Every solo or ensemble entry from our school placed in one of the ratings. Forrest Stockwell has received nomination for an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. He will take his examination April 20 at Quincy, Illinois. Donna Dowacter has been chosen to be listed in the Who's Who Among High School Students of America.
