The new club, which is called the Blue Chapter is advised by Mr. Walter Goodwin, while the White Chapter has Mr. Harry Reeves as its head. The two groups hold separate meetings, but work jointly on such projects as dances, parties and hayrides. The Hi-Y'ers have also sold programs at the football games when the contests were played on the local field. During the past year,both chapters worked on such projects as collecting canned goods which were given to the Goodfellows for distribution to underprivileged families. The boys have been to the Y.M.C.A. at Ann Arbor and the Fisher Branch in Detroit. Two delegates from each club attended the Older Boys' Conference at Detroit, and the summer camp at Torch Lake. As a marching band, it played and marched at all football games, a Goodfellows' parade, and the Michigan State Normal Homecoming. Assuming concert status, the band then played at the Christmas, Mid-Winter, and Spring Concerts, participated in the 6B League Festival, attended the District and State Band and Solo and Ensemble Contests, and went on athree-day concert tour in the spring. With john Sandmann, a former Brooklyn farm- hand, coaching the Plym- outh Rocks baseball team this year, an even better record than last year might be anticipated. Last year's edition of the Rocks under john Klingeberger won six games out of nine. Included in the victories were two over the North- ville Mustangs. A .ILQQ :QQ VARSITY Although the Ply m o u t h Rocks basketball squad came within a few points of the Suburban Bleaders in the games with these powers, the blue and white fin- ished in the second division of the loop. About the only thing on the affirmative side for john Klinge- berger's crew was the fact that they beat their ancient and hated rival, Northville, twice. C7055 founfzq CROSS COUNTRY Paced by Louis Vargha and Calvin Becker, the Rock cross country squad of 1948 beat Belleville and Redford Union and lost to Trenton and Ypsi in the Suburban B League. In the state meet the Rocks finished 11th. Next year Coach Konrad Moisio has four returning lettermen: C. Becker, L. Vargha, D. Green, and D. Underwood. With these four fellows returning,the 1949 RockCross country team ought to go places. ij GOLF Last year under the direction of Mr. Harry Benjamin,the golf team marked up seven victories in ten catches to finish second in the league. The squad took third in the league. The squad took third in the regionals and finished seventh at state for a respectable season.
