I - , eniot glen ptoplecy Gee--here it is I976, and l'm still struggling through the halls at PHS--maybe they'll let me out-this year. l keep hearing about all the successful grads from my original class--the class of '56. Like Bud Beberick--what red-blooded American boy could ask more than being the head coach at Vassar? Remember Pastor Porky? Well--he worked his way up--from busboy to head bartender at the Ork Club which is managed by Don McKinney. l-ucky Carol Evansl She's the pretty wife of the Postmaster General of the Lhited Statesl He was appointed by another successful member of the class of '56--President Jack McQuate, who, incidentally, was elected on the Prohibitionist ticket. And look at Gordon Riggle--Ohio's leading horticulturistl He is happily rebuilding a thirty room house in the style and architecture of the turn of the century. And Don Grabach and Marty--nobody has heard from them since they left to explore the upper Amazon in 1960. Don was geoligizing and Mart Hampton was engineering. Remember Mary Brinson? She is now Col.Brinson--head of the Social Studies--at West Point. Bette Carter, her best friend, is the track coach there. Their husbands are both away in Europe on business trips. SandraVogel always wanted to do something no one else had done. Well, she reached her goal. She in- vented the first keyless typewriter. Always knew that Renz boy would amount to somethingl Bet Wilma is sure proud of her husband. Erwin be- came the first person to crack the sonic barrier--going backwards l ' There's that Mary Robertson, climbing up cx TV antenna after, that confirmed bachelor TV repairman, John Fetters. Poor girl--she was so certain. - And just look at Gene Baker and Bob Stroupl Gene's the president of Kennabaker-Packard, but he's competing with Bob Stroup, the president of General Motors. And Floyd Noble. He's got the Vassar of super markets-- Noble's Reverie , it's called. Rosie Fenner found a happy homelife with the boy of her choice, as did Orena and Eleanor Ousley. Helen Conklin is the leading home economics expert in the Lhited States and has become very rich, endorsing dish rags, brooms, etc. You all have probably heard of Commodore Margaret Burrer of the Coast Guard? Yes, that 's our Peggy. And who is so square as not to have heard of Joie Alexander and his Smilin' Cats ? Joe Alexander finally made itl ' I Jerry Lillo is hard at work making the most of every opportunity. Right now he 's hard at work directing the construction of the Paddock Block on the Public Square, which is supposed to top the Empire State Building in height. And you have all seen that fabulous woman-- l.impid Lenore --on the silver screen? That's right! None other than our own Lenore Briggsl And then there's Tom Marvin. He's still asleep in the front row in the auditorium from Commencement. Floyd White, after taking apart a Caterpiller tractor, became so enthused that he rushed right out and bought the company. Evelyn Trauger is his private secretary. What's that, Mr. Coon? My diEloma?? Oh--thank youl ll Yes, l'll finish mopping the corridor. Daher Huzovich was foot cheerleader and Jodn Postema and Ellen McKown were basketball cheerleaders. Joan Postema represented the class as'queen's attendant. To make money the class sold concessions at the home basketball games. They also sold house hold goods, stationery and vanilla. This is probably well founded be- cause Mr. Gilbreth has twelve children. ' Mrs. Gilbreth is the moderating factor in this family, as she tries to mediate between the sides. Lhknown to the family, Mr. Gi lbreth, no longer a young man and troubled by his heart is trying to train and educate his family for its future life, as well as prepare them for his possible death. W How Mr. Gilbreth goes about this provides the plot which is one continuous laugh. The excellent play, complimented by a hard-working cast, was presented before a capacity crowd on April 6, l956. uniot ffm: pfay When Pamela Jones was elected student council president, never in her wildest dreams did she foresee having to make the thousand and one decisions required of a school prin- cipal. Should she abolish home work, as one friend helpfully suggests? Should she stand behind an unpopular teacher? Should she keep the school's star athlete out of the state basketball tournament for disciplinary reasons? These are only a few of the headaches thd' confront Pam and her boy friend, Buzz Bailey, who unexpectedly finds himself doubling as vice-principal and home ec teacher, with an omelette in one hand and a dress pattem in the other, Romance kicks up its lovely heels, too, in this merry turnabout.' Who would have guessed that elderly Miss Goodin carried a torch for the confirmed faculty bachelor, Mr. Harper? Who would ever have imagined that Tick Tok, the diminutive ianitor, would eventually dominate Mrs. l?atchet, the demon scrub lady who--everybody suspected-- rode home each night on her broomstick? BAND lrstrumental music got off to a roaring start, with the marching band facing a grueling sefason of a regular succession of home Football games, each requiring new band shows. Who will ever forget Across the Field , U. of M. Rouser , or The Victors ? Of course, the highlight of the season was the Homecoming, when a member of the Marching Band wm crowned queen--Miss Carol Evans. The band received another honor the same night when WATG of Ashland broadcasted the Homecoming Game and half-time show. Following football season, the Marching Band disbanded in favor of the Concert Band, which immediately began work, on its Pop Concert, a new innovation in the band season. After the Pop Concert, work centered around preparation for both the District Concert and the Mid-Winter Concert. The latter concert was doubly important, because it was to be presented twice--once in the PHS auditorium, and ance at Shiloh, in the first ex- change concert between the two schools. l The Winter Concert aside, the band concentrated on contest work and plans for a Spring Concert, which would consist of heavier music. ' Following the final performance in Concert Season, the Marching Band again formed, beginning work for the band's last i955-56 school year appearancer-the Memorial Day parade--but this time something was missing--the class of T956 had gone. The year i955-i956 saw a great change in the band's government. It drew up and a- dopted a constitution, the first the band had. Also, a Pep Band was formed, to officiate at away football games that the Marching Band could not attend. The Pep Band continued into basketball season, but was eventually disbanded, due to schedule conflicts. CHORAL MUSIC Choral -music got started with a slow thud at PHS this year, because it was impossible for the Mixed Chorus to assemble until after football season. Immediately after organization, work began on the annual Christmas Concert, this year to be entirely vocal. A cantata, Child Jesus , was selected as the work to be performed. After the Christmas Concert, work began on the choral intermission for the Mid-Winter Concert.. The chorus began work for the District Contest, but since it was impossible for the group to get enough rehearsal time scheduled, they had to forego going to the contest. So, the group began working diligently for its last three appearances--a Patriotic Concert, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. 50 A. Renz T. Ross J. Fetters B. N. Lewis S. T. Fetters K. 8. Root S. J. Nearly l50 persons attended the Pl on May 5. The dinner was held at the Elementary School, where a Southern style dinner was served. Dinner music and stage entertainment were provided during the meal. From there the guests proceeded to the Senior High School where they entered the beautifully decorated auditorium. They were seated on a simulated Southern mansion porch. Across the lawn, a Showboat could be seen in the distance, colorfully decorated and seating a dance band,to whose music the classes danced. Much action was employed on the Showboat, such as a moving paddle wheel and a sign in lights flashing the theme off and on at intervals. Later the Prom moved to the Plymouth Drive-ln where they were the guests of Mr. Ed Ramsey. A breakfast and organ music were provided after the movie and ended one of the most successful and well enioyed Proms ever to be held at P. H.S. gs.-sfiaie' lf- 'W V knmal Jwfzwf 235 LL l 60 3.H.24. ' DEFENS IVE TEAM ACTION 'Tootfall Team ACTION BOYS The football team of 1955 has the best record of a 11 man football team ever to play on the Plymouth gr iron. With a little more team spirit they would have swept to an undefeated season. The Pilgrims rolled over Green Springs in the initial encounter of the se son' 29-12. In the next two games the team rompecl to consecutive victories over Maumee Valley and Sevill by the impressive scores of 48-6 and 46-6 respectivel ln the First road game of the year, Plymouth, hamper by bad weather and poor team spirit, was beaten by Butler 33-6. The boys rebounded from their defeat to shut out a strong Lodi team 19-0. ln the big game of the year a stubborn Wakeman team held the Pilgrims to an 18-Ogloss. Miss Carol Evans was the reigning queen. The final game of the season was won by a fired-up Plymouth eleven 31-12. New records set by the team are as follows: Most points scored in one season - 180 Most points scored in one game - 48 Highest individual scorer one season - 84 iEd Taylorl Most games won in one season - 5 Most yards gained in one game - 428 .
