Then...and now While teaching is many centuries old, the last one hundred years have seen an evolution in teaching methods. A century ago not many girls attended schools, and all students who did attend, walked. Teachers believed strictly in the three R's and had not forgotten the use of the rod. There were few school social activities, and a pupil's progress depended solely on his ambition. Today our schools aim for a well-rounded and thorough education for everyone. We are allowed to govern our school in part, but we always have advisers to rely on. An active social life through extracurricular activi- ties is an important part of our schooling. Profiting from past experiences, the present educational system is constantly improving its preparation of the citizens of tomorrow. ,-lj rely, .
