Ns - 5 :Ea , .- - LL '4 2' 151 'P 5 A . n X 7 -ZX I x gm 5 , wcth A Song rm ur Heczrjcs h OC ply H1 Elzarboofc of Plymouth HLQI1 C, 0 , mon ,mass ri Q 7hz Class of CI?SQ,I1JfS Dedmied mms magna mlb ur U1 appceccajuon years o ci v fed servmce um Uma aim Depczrimenf f my H1 Hgh School .7e' W . f of fuermfiy-eiyhl f Our PrmclpaI's Message I want to pay a trlbute to a g1rl who was a member of th1s school a good many years ago before most of you were born I shall not attempt to descrlbe her lest she be ldentlfied and also because the descrxptlon m1ght well be consldered cruel And that glrl IS just about the last person Id want to do an unk1ndness to even unmtentxonally L1ke most g1rls of that age her physlcal appearance was lmportant to her Not that she had any notlons about becommg glamorous 1n fact 1n her mmost heart I th1nk she must have known that was lmposslble To put lt k1ndly her looks must at best have been a great dlsappomtment to her Take my word for It she was anythlng but easy to look upon And the poor ch1ld knew It When first she came to us her dlsposltlon was on a par wnth her ex terlor and she was a dlflicult person to get along wlth But whether It was because some classmate talked to her or lt may have been her mother or a teacher or an older frlend or whether she worked lt out for herself through the normal fr1endly contacts w1th the other puplls then ID th1s school a great change took place 1n her personahty toward the end of her Sophomore year Looklng back I cant pretend that I was able to see 1nto her mmd any further than at present I can see 1nto yours but It was as though she had sa1d to herself I shal never be MISS Amerlca nor come anywhere near that k1nd of d1st1nct1on but I can be a pleasant person so that people can grow to l1ke me Her first efforts 1n th1s d1rect1on were somewhat ludlcrous for she tr1ed too hard and the artlficxahty was all too apparent I thlnk there were tlmes when It must have been close to heartbreak for her But she per and less from her determlnatlon her personallty pos1t1vely flowered 1 know that lS an extravagant way of puttmg 1t but It does descrlbe what happened It IS pleasant mdeed heart warmmg to record that all of th1s pald off for her By the t1me she was graduated I thmk she was one of the most genulnely l1ked gxrls 1n the school Unfalllngly courteous always pleasant ready to help when help was needed I know that those of us who knew her then no longer saw the ungamly homely g1rl that our eyes rested upon but the steadfast warm hearted frlend always generous In sympathy and understand1ng I dont know where she IS now and I cant say that she had then or has now a song m her heart m fact 1n the early days I suspect more often had a lump m her throat but she d1d her best to put a song ln our hearts and more often than not she succeeded So wherever she IS I salute her and commend her example to you It IS all too easy for us to focus our attentxon on the sllghts and petty lnjustlces the world deals out to us to grxpe and grumble because we cant have th1ngs our way but too much concern wlth one s self Qand envy IS usually the root of th1sJ results only 1n an mgrown d1spos1t1on And few thlngs fester qulte so badly as that Perhaps we can t all have a song ln our hearts perhaps lf we dld even our fr1er'ds m1ght find all that Joy a b1t trymg at tlmes but slnce we do lxve 1n the world w1th many other people I don t thlnk It would hurt lf we all tr1ed to be more pleasant about lt Metaphor1cally I take off my hat to the glrl who gave me the most convlncmg practlcal demonstratxon of th1s EDGAR J MONGAN O O 7 , - . . 1 , . . S. athletic functions of the year, support and school spirit was upheld by our group of eight cheerleaders who went every inch of the way with confidence in their teams. They always held true to the Blue and White, cheering with all their hearts, until their cheers resulted in victory. Clothed in new skirts and weskits of blue, the girls did their best to lead the teams to a successful season, The work and worry experienced by the cheerleaders has paid off in audience enthusiasm, and several new cheers have become favorites of the fans. Pass mterference gave Plymouth a first down on the Barnstable 12 yard l1ne eleven held Hingham's powerhouse down to just fourteen points in the After Larry Paul gained exght yards Bern1e Andrews smashed through the mxddle for the score Gomes took a pltchout from Paul to h1s rlght and heaved a pass 1nto the end zone to Resmck for the extra pomt but It was too late as Plymouth lost 26 to 7 Br1ght spots for Plymouth were the fine catches of Carl Resmck and the smashmg TD of Bern1e Andrews Plymouth 26, Falmouth 13 On November 13 Plymouth High the VlCt1m of seven straight defeats unleashed 1ts full season s wrath at Falmouth as they powerhoused the1r way downfield four tlmes and presented Coach Donald Mullen Wlth a 26 to 13 v1ctory over Falmouth H1gh 1n the final game of the season It was a well deserved w1n as the Shlretown schoolboys paced by Larry Paul co captam Ronny Gomes and T1m Brady slammed mcessantly at the Fal mouth line travelllng 193 yards over the ground for a total of fourteen first downs Plymouths first score came early 1n the first quarter on a march from the Falmouth 24 after Bern1e Andrews had run back a Falmouth punt Paul and Gomes took it to the Fahnouth four yard 11ne After bexng W1ll1e Anderson Plymouth guard recovered a Falmouth fumble on the Cape 40 a few plays later to set up Plymouths second touchdown Co captam Gomes brought the ball to the Falmouth s1x and then T1m Brady swept h1s rrght end cut back sharply and went over standmg up to make the score 12 to 0 1n favor of Plymouth In the th1rd per1od Falmouth back deep in the1r own territory began to move but the thrust was halted when Carlton Resnick intercepted a pltchout and gave Plymouth a first down on the Falmouth three yard line Gomes hit center for the touchdown and J 1m RuHin1 k1cked the extra pomt Plymouth s final score came 1n the last per1od after Jerry Santos had intercepted a Falmouth pass on the Falmouth forty yard l1ne Led by Ronny Gomes Plymouth smashed the1r way to the Falmouth four yard l1ne where Larry Paul swept his left end for the score J1m Rufiim place k1cked his second extra po1nt of the game, and Plymouth had won their reward by a score of 26 to 13 held for two plays, Larry Paul skirted his right end for the touchdown. ' 9 s 9 3 Y Y 1 . . , . . , , - The Plymouth High School hoopmen made it three straight in Old Colony League competition on January 18 as they romped to a 65 37 win over Middleboro High Coach Rogers gave the game over to his full line of reserves in the last period as his first line squad had set them up with a 16 point lead Captain Larry Paul paced his teammates with 19 points Plymouth High School contmues its hoop team upsetting on January 21 when it took the measure of an overconfident Barnstable High 54-49 The Barnstable team badly misjudged the power and ability of the Plym outh qumtet and it was Plymouth s excellent shooting from the free throw lane that finally won the game Charlie Tassinari was high man with 20 points 16 of them being foul shots The shooting from the floor was terrific as Plymouth trounced Rock land on January 25 by a score of 50-43 The Blue and White led all the way and the only reason for Plymouth s not winning by a wider margin was the fact that the first team reserves played almost the whole fourth quarter. Howie Benassi and Dave Besegai played a great game with their rebounding and shooting Plymouth fought hard but was unable to catch a fine-working Hing- ham team at Hingham on January 28. Although Captain Larry Paul scored 26 points the team scoring of Hingham gave Plymouth its second loss to Hingham in league competition On February 1 P.H.S. met Abington High in a game which resulted in 12 of the 13 players on the Plymouth varsity getting into the scoring column as Plymouth romped to its sixth win by a score of 79-49 The Plymouth team was never in trouble as everyone on the varsity saw service. Captain Larry Paul topped the scoring with 16 points and Howie Benassi also played an excellent game One of the most thrilling games of the year was played on February 4 at Whitman High School. In a see-saw battle which saw Plymouth go behind in the second and third periods and then pull the game out in the final period, the Blue and White managed to beat Whitman by a narrow margin, 54-52. Franny Barrett and Charlie Tassinari were high men with 14 points. Plymouth Hlgh turned on the steam on February 8 turnmg back a speedy M1ddleboro five by a score of 81 65 Plymouth dropped the ball through the hoop from all angles and raced to another league v1ctory The terrlfic reboundmg and defenslve play of Dave Nunes and J1m Ruflim sparked the Plymouth team 1n the1r v1ctory Plymouth Hlgh was far below par 1n the1r game agalnst Wareham on February 11 Playmg before one of the largest crowds to watch on Old Colony League game Wareham could not seem to do anythlng wrong and Plymouth couldn t seem to do anythmg rlght Plymouth dld not start to score unt1l the latter part of the th1rd perlod and by that t1me they were behmd by too much as they went down to the1r thlrd defeat by a score of 70 51 Captam Larry Paul was outstandmg for Plymouth Or February 15 Plymouth Hlgh gave Rockland a lesson on shootlng as the Blue and Whlte trounced the boys from R H S by a score of 87 68 The hoopsters from P H S clmched a place 1n the Tech Tourney by w1nn1ng th1s gan e Larry Paul and How1e Benassl led the Plymouth team 1n scormg and Steve Wlnokur was outstandmg on h1s outslde sets On February 16 the Plymouth mlghty mltes travelled to Falmouth to meet Falmouth Hlgh School Foul shootmg proved to be the dec1d1ng factor as Plymouth hooped 70 per cent of the1r free throws whlle Falmouth made only 50 per cent of the1r foul shots Led by Tass1nar1 s 21 po1nts and Larry Pauls 25 po1nts Plymouth downed Falmouth 66 58 After drawmg a first round bye Plymouth H1gh had l1ttle trouble ehmmatmg Canton Hxgh from South Shore t1tle play 59 to 44 before a capaclty crowd at the Stoughton Hlgh gym The Shlretowners then trav elled to Randolph where they were el1m1nated from the South Shore tour ney by Whltman Hlvh 50 to 49 ln a top notch hoop thr1ller Playmg at Rockland Hlgh 1n the first consolat1on game ln the hlstory of the South Shore Tourney Plymouth Hlgh lost to Ohver Ames Hlgh of North Easton 69 to 57 after leadmg by three po1nts at the half The b1g three Paul Tass1nar1, and Benassl played great ball throughout the tourney s 1 7 , . . . x ' 1 . . . . .
