THE MAYFLOWER PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL PLYMOUTH, INDIANA VOLUME XLV 1962 iii limit JOURNEY OF THE MAYFLOWER FOREWORD DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION UNDERCLASSMEN IN MEMORIAM SENIORS CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS FEATURES. ADVERTISERS 4 FOREWORD The 1962 MAYFLOWER” represents the voyage of the Mayflower from the old country to a new country. In our freshman year we are like the Pilgrims setting off on a new adventure in the world of knowledge. By our sophomore and junior years we, like Pilgrims, become accustomed to our new adventure. In the senior year we are like the Pilgrims who have discovered a new land and are about to disembark into it. As would be necessary on a ship we have our teachers and administration to act as our captains and pilots. We also have our elected governing body and our social organizations. 5 DEDICATION KATHERINE GARN HISTORY TEACHER We, the class of 1962, dedicate this our MAY- FLOWER to one who through the years has spent many hours helping us over the rocky journey across the sea of learning. It is with admiration and grati- tude that we dedicate this 1962 MAYFLOWER to Miss Katherine Garn. 6 NOiivyisiNiiAiav ADMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION: Jay Reed, Treasurer; Ralph R. Much like the Pilgrims boarding their ship with uncertainty we also were very uncertain that first year as Freshmen. But soon we became a part of school life through initiations, dances, homework, and our representatives in Student Coun- cil: John Robinson, Susan Robertson, Judy Ritenour, Nicki Yoder. Our first year on our journey was highlighted by our class party, Swing Into Spring. Just as the Pilgrims became accustomed to their strange voyage so did we as Sophomores at Lincoln High. Everything seemed more natural and to fall into place. Again we all enjoyed a class party entitled, April in Paris.” As Juniors the excitement of a new school thrilled each of us as the new country might have thrilled the Pilgrims. Things seemed much more pleasant and advantageous in the modern new building. As the Pilgrims landed and elected officers, we sighted our time in school shortening and also chcee governing officers: Pres. John Robinson, Vice-Pres. Robert Kirer, Sec. Kathleen Hits, Treasurer Judy Ritenour. These four helped organize us and plan a celebration by sell- ing concessions at games and dances. Our celebration, the prom, was called, Bali Hai. During our last few months on this Journey, for entertainment we enjoyed a play A Rocket in His Pocket. As we had given tribute to our ciders, it was now time for us to be the guests. Each of us enjoyed our celebration from the Juniors, Song of India. Finally came the time to disembark the ship. For guidance, we had elected officers: Pres. John Robinson, Vice-Pres. Robert Kizer, Sec. Kathleen Hiss, and Treasurer Nicki Yoder. Sadness, along with great anxiety, fitted each of us as we stepped off the plank and set out on our way in the new world. BLUE VELVET The enchanting evening was enjoyed by all. Sometimes we stood and talked or we stopped to listen to the beautiful music of Bobby Ball and his band. Other times we found the refreshments to be inviting. As the evening wore on we found the chairs and tables lining the halls to be most welcome in soothing our weary feet. The Sunshine annual Christmas dance was held on December 2, 1961 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. The cafetorium was beautifully decorated in colors of blue and white. In the middle of the floor sat a charm- ing young couple in their sled, waiting to take us on an old fashioned sleigh ride. SONG OF INDIA John Kelver and Rosemary Jeffirs were crowned King and Queen for Song of India. The theme was portrayed in ap- propriate decorations for the ban- quet at the E.U.B. Church and for die prom in the high school cafe- torium. Music for the prom was furnished by the Bob Ball orchestra. AFTER-THE- PROM The Letter men from Notre Dame University supplied the music for the After -the-Prom party at the National Guard Armory. The party was sponsored by the Rotarians who served a delicious buffet breakfast. Rev, Donald C. Kim , R v. William C. R. Sheridan, Rev. Vernon A. Lalleznent, Rev. Maurice H. LeFevre, Rev. Thomas C.
