As freshmen, we looked in wide-eyed amazement at the activities of the upperclassmen; once we were initiated, we began to feel a part of the school. As sophomores, we took an even more enthusiastic part in school activities. Perhaps the highlight of our sophomore year was our party. The Spring Swing.' Through our selling at the basketball games, we juniors were able to pay our respects to the 1959 seniors by offering them an evening of wonderful enjoyment at the banquet and prom Rendezvous in Blue. Our last year was the busiest and probably the one which will stand out most in our memories. We did every- thing from putting on the humorous play Bolts and Nuts to adopting a new title--alumni. We realize, as we complete this year, that we are leaving behind us some of the best years of our lives. Many things will remain in our memories. As the last class to graduate from Lincoln High School, we have had many Moments to Remember. HOWARD LIEBENGOOD President BONNIE JARRELL Treasurer LINDA BAUER Secretary STEPHEN MILLER Vice Pres. The 1959 version of the Rockies, featuring blazing backfield speed and a small but determined line, toiled through pre-season drills intent on winning the conference. J. C. Butler's crew got off on the right foot with a 14 to 0 victory on the home gridiron over Warsaw. Rochester was next. It was Homecoming at Rochester, and the Rockies faced a real test in stopping the Zebras. When the dust cleared from the Rochester field, the score read: Plymouth 39-Rochester 19. The game was highlighted by Sid Hillabrand's five touchdown scampers. Tension mounted in Plymouth as the next game was with undefeated and untied Peru. The Tigers were determined when they took the field but the Rocks socked them with several quick touchdowns in routing them 25-0. With three straight conference wins under their belts the Rockies suf- fered their first defeat at Wabash. Not mentally keyed for the Apaches, the Rockies were turned down by a 14 to 6 count. Plymouth then took a two game lay off from conference action, to play non-conference rivals. Bre- men and Nappanee. The Bremen-Plymouth game was a classic example of football rivalry at its best. Each team, keyed to the hilt, gave everything they had. The advantage swayed back and forth, but at the game’s end the Rockies were the losers in the bitter contest. 20 to 14. Plymouth had dropped two in a row and Coach J. C. Butler and his eleven were tired of losing. The first half of the Nappanee game showed nothing spectacular. Fans and Coach Butler were worried at halftime. The second half was a different story. The Rockies roared out of their Centennial dressing room with fire in their eyes. They hit the Bulldogs with a pair of quickies. and threw up a last ditch goal line stand to garner a 20 to 14 win. Homecoming and Huntington were next on the agenda. Perhaps the rugged schedule was beginning to take its toll on the Rockies. The powerful Huntington offensive machine took advantage of every Plymouth miscue and rolled to a 46 to 0 win. The next two games were far more indicative of what the Rockies could do. The Plymouth gang bounced back to smash the Monticello Tioga Indians 27 to 7. Then on to New Haven for the finale. The Rockies left the pass happy New Haven gridders in the mud of their own field, as the seniors took off the pads for the last time with a 26 to 21 win under their belts. This gave Coach Butler and the boys a six and three record and third place in the C.I.C. P. H. S. That was the end of the offensive problems and defeat. The B” team ripped Penn Township, Nappanee, Breman Peru and CMA, respectively. By season's end. they had won six and dropped only one. SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS In the opening game of the season, Coach Robert Hileman fielded a team of three veteran Pilgrims and two junjor cagers. Balanced scoring and rebounding paid off in Plymouth's first win. as they defeated Mishawaka 43-42. The following week, the Pilgrims took to the road against a rough St. Joseph crew, and were defeated 49-61. The first home game found Plymouth’s cagers on the short end of the score against Goshen 46-54. The Pil- grims then rebounded to beat conference foe Monticello 50-47. The Pilgrim quintet then hit a snag, losing their next five encounters, to Rochester. 32-38, Knox, 49-54. Peru, 54-57, Bremen, 42-48, and Bremen again in the Invitational Tourney. 51-56. Back on the winning trail again. Plymouth defeated Warsaw. 63-61. and vanquished Nappanee’s Bulldogs 57-56. Plymouth hoopsters were not as fortunate in their next two engagements. Wabash stopped the Plymouth five 54-71, followed by a heartbreaking loss to Muncie Burris 49-50. P.H.S. cagers won their next three starts beating Rochester 66-59 (we got the cowbell), Warsaw 57-48. and Culver 58-44. Following a defeat at the hands of Huntington 48-56. the Pilgrims beat Culver Military 56-51. and closed the regular season with a loss to powerful Logansport 60-73. Mix a lot of school spirit, a team with enthusiasm and determination and the result is a Sectional Crown. Plymouth accomplished this by scalping Culver's Indians 64-48, followed by a squeaker over Tippecanoe 41-38. Defeating rival Rochester in the final game, gave Plymouth its ninth Sectional Crown. Not as fortunate at the Regional, the Plymouth quintet was defeated by a spirited Elkhart crew 41-69. The Plymouth five placed fourth in the C.I.C. standing. They also have two boys given conference recogni- tion: Jack Price--honorable mention, and Larry Hamell, who finished his high school career with 1,338 points, was chosen to be on the conference first team.
