THE MAYFLOWER PUBLISHED BY THE CLASS OF 1957 LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL PLYMOUTH, INDIANA Dedication To Mr. Klitzke, our Superintendent, this book is dedicated. Mr. Klitzke has been in the teaching profession for thirty years--seven of which have been spent here. He holds AB and MA degrees. He is listed in the WHO'S WHO OF AMERICAN EDUCATION and the WHO'S WHO OF THE MIDWEST. Already he has seen the completion of Jefferson School, the addition to the high school, and the initiation of our textbook rental system. It is with pride that the staff and I dedicate this book. Class History When we seniors entered Lincoln High School as freshmen, we looked with envy to the upperclass- men; little realizing that soon we would fill their places. Our girls were honored as being in the first Junior Sunshine group. Being an active and musical group, our sophomore year, we caroled at the Yuletide season. Our St. Patrick's Day party was very enthusiastically attended. At the beginning of our junior year, we elected Larry Ritzenthaler, Dick Botset, Lucy Howard and Jeanne Wolff for our class officers. Many of us found our way into the clubs of the school. We did find time to sponsor the Harvest Hop during the Thanksgiving holidays. Our enthusiastic selling at the bas- ketball games enabled us to give the 1956 seniors the prom, Moments to Remember. Our Senior Officers: Jack Mart, Mike Lattimer, Glenna Russell, and Janice Lehman, have led us through this year. Our Senior play was Down to Earth. Melinda Dunlap was Homecoming queen, with Pat Doherty and Shirley Howard in her court. At graduation we took the last look at our class together--remembering our good times together; ready to make our place in the world. 12 Class of 1957 JOAN AK£R SALLY ALCOCK JUDY BAKER LOIS BAKER We Let These Pages SONIA BECHAKA TERRY BECHAKA JOE BOUNCER JAMES BOLLENBACHER RICHARD BOTSET Retell Our Story ALAN CROCKER KENNETH CRYSLER IRENE DAVENPORT PATRICIA DOHERTY JAMES DOLL CAROLE DRAKE MELINDA DUNLAP DIANA DYE 15 Competent Class Officers ARLIS EADS SUE FELKE DAVID FERRIS DONALD FERRIS HARRY FISHER SHARON FURRY VIOLET GAINES DANICE GILLEY Were Elected ROSALIE GLAUB CHARLES GORDON DUANE GREEN AW ALT MARTHA JO HAMPTON DAVID HARPER RONALD HARRIS JESS HARTUNG JOYCE HARTUNG 17 MONA HAWKINS Powerful Athletic Teams JAMES HISSONG MIKE HOLM SHIRLEY HOWARD WILLOUGHBY JARRELL 18 CURTIS MARIE KENNEDY Won Many Games MARY KIZER SHARON KLAPP RICHARD KNEPPER 'Down To Earth” ROBERT LONG MYRNA McCANN JACK MART SUE MARKLEY NOEL MYERS MARY NEIDL1NGER MARY NEWCOMER 20 JUDY OLIVER Comedy Was Presented GEORGENA PERRY MARY SUE PIFER MIKE RELOS ROCHELLE RETTINGER LARRY RITZENTHALER THAD RUDD GLENNA RUSSELL ROBERT SAUNDERS 21 MARILYN SCHONER Junior-Senior Prom SHEILA SHERER MIKE SMITH Enjoyed By All LYNN VAN GILDER CAROL WAGNER S JANET WALLSKOG GARY WAKELAND JANET WARNOCK MARIDEE WHITE JANET WHITESELL DAVID WOLFF 23 Farewell to Seniors r' RW- JEANNE WOLFF LARRY WRIGHT SANDRA YODER 24 DAVID ZEJDER SUE ZIMMER Seniors’ Activities JOAN AKER-SSS 2,3,4; GAA 1,2; Spring Festival 1,2: Ye Pil- grim 2,3,4; Choir 3,4; Messiah 4; Variety Show 3,4; Christmas Oratorio 3; Prom Queen 3. Rockies Place Second in C. I. A. C. The 1956 - 57 football season proved very successful for the Rockies, largely because of their thrilling team spirit and great desire to win. The nine returning lettermen also contributed invaluable aid to the team. Under the inspiration and leadership of the new head coach, Mr. Kehoe, the boys gained a season record of 7 wins and 1 loss and the second-place berth in the Central Indiana Conference. After two weeks of intensive training, the squad traveled to Warsaw, where they gained their first victory of the season, 21-0, over the Tigers. The next Friday however, Rochester managed to completely surprise the P.H.S. squad by handing them a 6-12 defeat. This was the Rockies' only loss of the season, as they went on to win their next six contests. The boys really buckled down to work after the Rochester game and went on to swamp Peru 33-7 the following week end. Wabash was next to fall to the hard-hitting Rockies, 20-0, in a hotly contested game. Then Knox was tTampled 35-7, followed by Nappanee's 21-0 downfall. The Rockies' full offensive power fully blossomed forth in the last two games. This driving offense coupled with a stone-like defense resulted in the 51-14 win over Huntington and the Homecoming victory against Monticcllo, 39-12, which ended the season. As a result of their hard work and sacrifice, Jesse Hartung, Gary Wakeland, and Chuck Johnson were chosen as members of the All Conference first team. Clay Metsker was named to the second team and Steve Yoder to the third team. The team as a whole elected Jesse Hartung as its captain and Gary Wakeland as its most valuable player. Coach Kehoe and his team are to be much praised for their excellent showing this year. The student body shall long remember the work they did for the glory of Lincoln High. 66 Wha' Happened?
